Surely it's done on seniority - no?

4,000 will be lost due to people leaving the company and not being replaced - I would not be surprised if a lot of this figure has already left. Our mail centre is 25% short = 30 posties short.

There's probably 6,000 posties who came into the business in the past 2 to 3 years... most of these will cost very little for RM to let go. If you've worked less than 2 years you get no redundancy pay.

What will making people with limited service actually achieve as they are probably already on the lowest wage, agree to work Sunday's etc, they'll be targeting the stuck in the wool experienced staff, the ones with dodgy performance and sickness records.

What % are your own depots short of staff by?

ours is 25% short.

I am wondering if they are even going to make anyone redundant if every depot is down by 20% or more. It's possibly just scare tactics. The company has been running short staffed for 2 years+, purposefully.

11%. Also the guy that joined on a six month contract last week from a settled job isn't feeling to hopeful of seeing an extension. What a disgrace how they treat people.

In an ageing workforce, there are plenty of workers at or near retirement age, this is what they have been waiting for.

No one needs to be worried about losing their job. This is just to try and convince people not to strike. If we don't strike though and they do what they want with the business you can expect that number to be much higher.

They are not even offering redundancy at the agreed terms with the union , they are plucking figures out of the air , joke outfit.

I'd imagine legal issues with that, and plenty of challenges. But nevertheless, there are 4 in my office of 12 who are ready to go, anything is a bonus for them.

They aren't going to be paying people thousands of £ to leave. They don't want to even offer a 5 or 6% pay rise.

By the time August has come round 10,000 probably would leave anyway the way this is going.

The redundancies will start in February and should be done for August.

If all 10,000 were to get the maximum, that would cost RM 170,000,000 not bad for a company that is skint.

And there's going to be many more across the country. Nobody who wants to stay need fear for their jobs. More than enough will jump with a little bonus.
