The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: How Can This End?
Remember a while back the invisible Royal Mail chairman said Thompson had never dealt with a unionIzed workforce before. Could this be one of the problems ?? He doesn’t know how. Too used to getting things his own way.

Unless all people taking industrial action are sacked, you can claim unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal. To avoid unfair dismissal claims all 115000 would need to be sacked.

I suspect he will stall in the hopes that Truss/Kwarteng/Mogg etc force through anti union laws, then use those to ignore us and get us all back to work

Re: How Can This End?
Unfortunately people at our place are giving up strike next week apart from a hardcore few. Apparently last week’s strike saw most go in and just sat around doing d2ds and dead Mail and other basic jobs then go home at 1 o’clock on full pay whilst about a third of us were striking, now several part timers are saying what’s the point when full timers are going in getting paid, and show no fights, I get where they’re coming from as it should be all out but it appears like it’s starting to get too drawn out for a lot of people now, I can compared to most keep doing it as I probably can afford it more than them but how many people realistically are going to keep on striking?

Don't listen to the snake.
You'll find many people with kids have a strong resolve, they are not only fighting for their livelihood but their children's future. To give in is to submit them to a totalitarian dystopia, this is more than a Royal Mail strike.

Re: How Can This End?
The current series of strikes end on the 2nd of December, if there's no compromise by then, the game's up.
Unions have to give 2 weeks' notice of industrial action. so even if they gave notice for more straight away, Christmas would be almost upon us and there will be no appetite for strikes in the New Year.
If this series of strikes fail, then the union will have little option but to go cap in hand and try to settle on whatever terms are available.

Makes you wonder what half wit gave Thompson the job if he hadn't ever dealt with a unionized workforce before, especially when a large part of your remit would involve dealing with that exact thing.

Re: How Can This End?
Hopefully with Dave Ward and Terry also losing their jobs... They have also failed to find the right way or solutions. All they have lumbered us with us strikes and they and we are still being ignored. In fact, the sher price is going up.
The October strikes are just a waste effort and money for us. Every single strike is on a Wednesday - royal now knows how to deal with such strikes and it is also on the same day throughout October.
Two of the strikes in November for delivery staff will favour someone on a Wednesday day off, followed by a Thursday off. What rubbish planning is that?
These clowns at the CWU are not really fighting for us but their own survival... They have no clue how it will end!
When it ends, we will find out that we are no really better off. A bit of begging and finding ways out to dampen the changes will have helped; not confrontational approach and childish insults on social media

Re: How Can This End?
What is a hardcore union member ??? And how will they be the only ones that will be able to keep up with industrial action.2yearpostie wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 14:26Only the hardcore union members will continue to be able to afford to strike after this month. Anyone with kids, a mortgage etc will not be wanting to sacrifice those things especially if a cold winter and christmas period happens.
Also after 12 weeks ( around 18th nov) RM can legally start dismissing people who strike.
ST is just waiting and will plough on regardless.
https://www.gov.uk/industrial-action-st ... 20solution.
You can claim unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal if you’re dismissed for taking industrial action at any time within the 12 weeks after the action began.
After 12 weeks, you can be dismissed if you take industrial action and your employer has tried to settle the dispute. For example, your employer may bring in advisers from Acas to help find a solution.

Re: How Can This End?
Royal Mail could dismiss people after 12 weeks. But they'd have to dismiss everyone who was striking or face unfair dismissal claims. I'd suggest that sacking most of the workforce 5 weeks before Christmas would be a somewhat bold move.2yearpostie wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 14:26

Probably best not to snippet from the Gov.UK site in case you give a misleading impression.

Someone who made it quite clear that his remit will be to finally break the union, following a predetermined plan, exploiting the cost of living (lockdown) crisis, no experience with IR required.
