Making yourself more financially robust is easier said than done.
It's very easy to be smug if you are in your 50's or 60's with decades of service and financially secure.
One day you'll be in your 50s and 60s Milly. How do you think you'll become more Finacially Secure?

Sometimes it's by learning lessons the hard way as you move through life ..... other times it's by taking well intentioned advice.
We've all been there (unless your an eccentric millionaire that gets a buzz out of delivering letters). I've been made Redundant twice.... I don't own my own house (with a fully paid off mortgage),......I've been stuck on a shitty PT contract for years..... I've maxed out credit cards to pay bills.... I've had Christmases when we couldn't afford hardly any presents for my kids.... I nearly went Bankrupt but settled for a Debt Management Plan instead...... So I'm far from SMUG about Families suffering Milly.
We struggle through life to make it better for our Families, and when I meet someone like Simon Thompson who just seems determined to destroy a job, which I quite like, in order to line his own pockets, then I get Angry!
I've managed over the years to pay off those credit cards and not run them up again. When I've had small windfalls .... or even pay rises .... I've put the extra money away instead of pissing it up the wall. I don't smoke, I drink moderately, I don't cover myself in tatoos, I don't have SKY Sports plus or Film Channels, I have a 10 year old car, I have a Take Away about once a month, we Holiday in the UK not flying around the World!
So as you say Milly ... Making yourself Financially Robust is easier said than done .... But it can be done. Good Luck!
