Come to think of it, the CWU is also responsible for BT workers... They are striking too and share price is also tanking...
Dexy: I am glad to read from you - it is refreshing to read some other opinions rather than the vociferous 'lets trash the system...'

Thanks.
I just believe a bit of pragmatism doesn't go amiss in times like these.
I'm open to all sides of the argument.
Don't get me wrong- I think the current RM board are the worst we've ever had.
But it takes 2 to tango.
I honestly feel the cwu could do an awful lot better, especially in its' comms to members (and striking non members).

Yes BT...

The Agenda for Growth Agreement put in a number of legal guarantees which has limited the impact from privatisation which other companies have seen.
My wife works for BT , they have broken up the company with open reach etc, they have outsourced work all round the world where it could be done cheaper , they have franchised and they a two tier workforce.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

This week should be interesting with the CWU laying out their position and letting us know what we are hoping to achieve.
So far I’ve been supporting the strike blindly ie, not knowing what we expect to gain and what we are willing to give up so this coming week should make things clearer (hopefully)

Of course, when the performance of any parties involved in any industrial action are examined there will be aspects that both sides will say, I wish I did that differently or I wish that I had found a better way of saying or doing something.
At the core of the present dispute the are two main issues, pay and changes to terms and conditions.
At this time I would like to address pay.
RM has awarded a 2% pay increase with no strings attached. This 2% equates to approximately £5 extra take home pay a week, which probably covers the increase in the price of two items, bread and milk in my weekly shopping.
My understanding is that inflation is around 10% and that the average pay increase as calculated by Government statistics is over 7%. Speaking to family and friends who work in a wide range of private and public enterprises, the 7% figure seems to be a fair reflection of their experiences. I would add that all my family and friends said the there were no strings attached to their pay rises and that their employers recognised the particular hardship that everyone is experiencing at the moment.
There can be no doubt that the present senior management team in Royal Mail do not take the same attitude. In fact the offer from Royal Mail which involved a combination of a no strings pay rise, a bonus scheme of some sort and an increase that required significant negative changes to employees terms and conditions was an offer designed to lead us to our present circumstances.
The approach that Royal Mail has taken to the present dispute can best be described as a cold and calculated attempt by an employer to take advantage of employees during a period of real hardship. In the opening line of this post I said that parties in a dispute would normally look back on their actions and consider if mistakes were made.
Be in no doubt that Royal Mail has been planning and strategising for the present circumstances , of course they knew how employees, through the CWU would respond to such an offer.
It is the CEO and his team who are responsible for taking us down this path and they don't have any regrets or believe they have made any mistakes. In fact I believe it is going exactly as they expected.
It is of course their business to RUIN.

I agree with the post you've made. ( I delete the majority of a post just to stop it filling up the pages)
