That is why you do a dynamic risk assessment for outdoor workers. A manager then makes the decision on that risk assessment.
As long as the risk assessment is done at night!
Personally I won’t walk down unlit driveways or lanes.
There could be steps at the end of the driveway, or low branches, pot holes or dogs.

For a start membership of a trade union is not compulsory. Thatcher ended the principle of a closed shop years ago.

What is being suggested is indirect discrimination treating one employee less favorable than another. So yes a rather erroneous comment from the OP with a lack of foresight as contrary to law. A trade Union has no powers over the law that will not even recognize membership
Nothing to do with indirect (or direct) discrimination in the eyes of the law, an erroneous comment from yourself there Len,
expected better.

You need to read the Equal Treatment Directive for workers before commenting further.
It saves egg on face and foot in mouth.

Indirect discrimination is when there's a practice, policy or rule which applies to everyone in the same way, but it has a worse effect on some people than others. The Equality Act says it puts you at a particular disadvantage.

I'd like to see a legal claim for 'discrimination' in a UK court based on the situation described Len. You'd be better off leaving the
word 'discrimination' out and just sticking with 'treated less favourably'!

It is already established law with Trade Union Membership in the TULRCA 1992 and discrimination with non members.

Is that the same law that means we all get sacked for striking on 24th Dec last year?

Yet another poster who need to grow up and stop behaving like a child.

Is it any wonder management treat staff as nothing more than drones?

Or druggies, prozzies and gangs of youths lurking on street corners running off with the contents of the mandatory equipment that Royal Mail provide i.e. the golf trolley!!

Also, if anyone should feel threatened to be delivering mail and parcels at any time then they should be endorsed and brought back to the delivery office.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Absolutely amazed by this forum. In a dispute which has been described as the most bitterest in decades certain people are still allowed to post with inflammatory posts. Yet if people question them they are held to account. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but to keep ramming it down other peoples throats is out of order.

Remember if it’s dark and the driveway or lane is unlit you do not have to walk down it.
Where does it state you do not have to go down an unlit driveway or lane??

The likes of AMAZON, and supermarkets do it up to 22:00 at night. The majority of Local Authorities have now turned off street lighting hoping to save money.
How would you know as your not a postman and said I have had a good run on here?
The good run on here comment was by a new account called redIen with a 'i' instead of l . cmon man you should of seen that

I believe the long term plan is to close even more mail centres and run all parcels through these new superhubs that they have built. It had 69 mail centres in 2007, 51 in 2012 and probably even less of them now. By automating the parcels they need less staff in processing and also hope to save on indoor time in delivery offices.
Physically impossible just using the superhubs as even combined their machines won't have anywhere near the number of selections needed. RM would either need to have some DOs starting 3-4 (maybe more) hours later or have the superhubs sort the parcels into batches, each of which could be run as a sort plan on the PSMs in MCs (I don't think even half of MCs currently have a PSM).

It also wouldn't save RM any staff in processing, it would just mean that less casuals/agency would be needed
