This chat site is quickly becoming the most potent weapon ST has. A load of barrack room lawyers who know a lot about very little and know little about a lot. They repeat rumours that have no basis in truth and then others join in and begin to slag off the union. Completely pointless.

It's when they're all putting different info out that it gets confusing.

I've no doubt Royal Mail are using disinformation, including on this forum, to spread uncertainty and division amongst the workforce.

Equally you can't blame members for passing on "what they've heard" in such a fevered atmosphere.

What is says to me is that the CWU really need to be better at communicating with the membership. For example, the strike date announcements have been farcical.

Most of us support the Union 100%, but give us something back here guys.

The confusion over the second dates was in the interpretation rather than just a case of the wrong dates being posted.

There are two ways of presenting the dates.

2x 24hr strikes starting at 4am on the 30th November and 4am on the 1st December.

Or

1x 48hr strike starting at 4am on the 30th November and ending at 4am on the 2nd December.

Both are valid and both mean the same thing but obviously without the context flipping between the two can lead to confusion.

It's for indicative purposes only though if the result was a lot closer than expected then presumably the union would be duty bound to have a re-run by way of a postal ballot to avoid doubt. Don't see that scenario happening so a moot point surely. For me, the removal of the 2 days is a reference to Thompson's insinuation that the unions response would be the use of '1970s levers', think they've outmanouevred him on both of the above fronts to be honest.

And the 26,500 who couldn't be bothered to vote the first time, will get a chance to vote this time as well.

Yes, they will probably call off the strikes planned for the 24th and 25th of November.
