The current Tory party leadership is dumb. But I don't think even they are stupid enough to call an election right now, they would be slaughtered. As has been said "Turkeys voting for Christmas" springs to mind when it's suggested!

No chances of general election. Only conservative party can call that and they'd be out and Labour in, so why would they do that? They'll try and muddle on till the compulsory election in January 25.

A General Election is probably the best thing that could happen to this dispute to be fair, especially if it falls after Christmas. The Postal Service then becomes (as we all know it is) a vital part of national infrastructure, you cannot hold a GE without a postal service. So the company would be under huge political pressure to agree a deal. Furthermore, given the low share price, Labour could make it their policy to re-nationalise the postal service (which the majority of people are in favour of according to polling).

The UK post Brexit, is at a crossroads. Those that put Truss in power, wanted to double down on Neoliberalism, rip up regulations, reduce workers rights, i.e. move to a low tax, deregulated economy, a mini America if you like. That exploded in their faces before it got off the starting blocks. So we're now in a position where there's a PM in office, that cannot implement her agenda (which was only mandated by a small amount of Tory Member voters). They are a party that's out of time, out of ideas and out of support. A failure of the last 12 years, and it's time the UK people admitted their mistake in giving them power, and put them to bed for a generation. Only then could we start running this country in the interests of working people, and not those people in positions of power like Simon Thomson, who are only beholden to shareholders and the profit motive.

I don't think that has been legislated for? I mean legislation could be put in place by the Government obviously (like they are currently about to do with transport), but as far as I know there isn't any legislation that says we can't strike in the lead up to an Election. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There's bound to be some stuff that RM are legally required to deliver in the run up to a GE. I wouldn't put it past RM to go straight to court to get an injunction blocking us from striking if a GE was called

There will not be a general election soon.

The only people who can trigger one are the PM, or Tory MPs voting no-confidence in the Government.

Neither of those things will happen, because the Tory Party would be obliterated as things stand.
