LTB 662/17 - CWU FOUR PILLARS OF SECURITY CAMPAIGN BULLETIN NO. 28

BULLETIN #28 Friday, 8 th December 2017

CLEAR PROGRESS BUT NO DEAL YET

This week we published the Mediator’s Report and a full update on the continuing negotiations with Royal Mail Group. After months of talks and the mediation process, it’s important that everyone stays focused on our Pillars of Security & Pay campaign, the
issues we balloted on and the key polices we are pursuing.

While clear progress has been made on all Four Pillars and Pay, we do not yet have an agreement with Royal Mail and there remains much work to do. More progress is needed on:
securing a fair, basic pay rise; an agreed flight path and timetable to a 35 hour week;
agreeing the level of employer contribution into the final new pension scheme and any transitional arrangements (if required); protecting our members’ working arrangements and
the quality of their working lives in relation to any future changes while promoting longterm growth; and extending our legal protections to deliver long-term security at work.

Equally we have made it clear that any final agreement must also contain a better deal for the treatment of part-timers and tackle issues around workplace culture, resourcing, efficiency, fair & manageable workloads and our IR Framework.

Our campaign aims to deal with today's problems while also protecting our members’ future and the future of this great industry. We recognise that change is a constant in all Aspects of life and work and in an era where most working people are facing greater insecurity, our progressive campaign is about securing employment, standard of living and retirement security.

Next week’s National Postal Workers’ Day serves as a timely reminder of the hard work and dedication of Royal Mail’s employees and underlines the importance of securing a deal our members deserve.

Our members’ excellent support and solidarity is pushing us towards an agreement but if we can't get that over the line via negotiation alone then we will still have to take Industrial
Action. Either way we are determined to succeed.
Keep calm, keep your eye on the big prize and stand strong behind your Union.
