LTB 118/15 New commercial agreement - Royal Mail/CWU

No. 118 /15

25th February 2015

To: All Branches with Postal Members

Dear Colleague,

New commercial agreement - Royal Mail/CWU

The purpose of this LTB is to advise Branches that the Union has been in discussion with Royal Mail on a new commercial agreement intended to reduce the overall cost of central billing, provide payment towards the cost of mediation, introduce cost neutral PEC pay and improve support for membership records and recruitment activities.

The current position is that an interim arrangement has already been secured and this produced savings for the Union to fund an element of mediation costs and an initial interim period of cost neutral PEC pay.

The position on securing PEC pay, to an equivalent level of Regional Secretaries and Divisional Representatives (London level), has been a long term objective, discussed previously at Annual Conference and is fully justified to reflect the requirements and responsibilities of the role.

The terms of the interim arrangement was discussed fully with the General Secretary and Senior Deputy General Secretary and reported to the NEC. At the point of securing the interim arrangement it was agreed that a final decision needed to be made at Annual Conference and a motion has been submitted accordingly. This is in line with the approach adopted for regional secretaries.

In the coming weeks we expect to finalise the new commercial agreement and the intention is to also place this before Annual Conference.

In reporting these developments to Branches, we are confident that a final agreement will be beneficial to the Union in all the areas outlined in this LTB.

Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward

Deputy General Secretary (P)
