Employee Engagement Initiatives
No. 085/2014
Ref: 230.05
Date: 6th February 2014
To: Branches with POSTAL Members
Dear Colleague
Employee Engagement Initiatives
Branches will be aware that the Agenda for Growth, Stability and Long Term Success Agreement contains the following commitment in Section Two - Delivering Cultural Change.
Employee Engagement
"By the end of June 2014 we will conclude a review of all existing employee engagement initiatives and put in place new and more progressive initiatives that support our shared objectives, a mutual interest culture and leads to well-motivated and highly engaged employees. This review of existing engagement practices will also cover World Class Mail".
However it has been brought to the attention of the department that the business are attempting to introduce employee engagement initiatives in some Delivery Offices which have not even been discussed with the CWU never mind agreed.
With the ballot result on the above mentioned agreement having only just been declared discussions on the review of employee engagement initiatives has not commenced. On that basis any new initiatives being presented to our members or representatives in the localities will by default be unagreed.
The Integrated Delivery Programme also provides for dialogue and agreement on employee engagement and involvement through one of the agreed strands which states the following:
People, Involvement and Training Strand
Royal Mail and CWU recognise the benefit of involving and positively engaging with front line employees in activity to support this programme of work and other programmes of work going forward and we will work together to ensure this happens for the benefit of both the business and its employees.
On that basis where members or CWU representatives are faced with new engagement initiatives or are unsure of their status they should be challenged and guidance sought from the Area Delivery Representative or CWU Divisional Representative. Where it is clear that the initiative is unagreed then they should be challenged via the IR Framework with the status quo remaining in place until the situation has been resolved.
It would also be appreciated if any such instances are reported without delay to the Outdoor department at CWU HQ so that they can be raised with Royal Mail at national level.
Any enquiries to Bob Gibson’s Office, quoting reference 230.05 Email address: hnutley@cwu.org or mstewart@cwu.org
Yours sincerely
Bob Gibson
CWU Assistant Secretary - Outdoor

Two instances and counting. It is just day one. What a farce.

I don't know about ground breaking more jaw dropping I'd have thought - just how naïve do you have to be to negotiate these half arsed agreements that gives the employer carte blanche for the future.
