Think you make such great points and that is certainly what we would do as a group that I work for..BernardBresslaw wrote:Can't a lot of the issues involving deliveries be sorted on a local level? If all members stick together, do the job properly, using requisite equipment, working to the rules, and their allocated hours, there is not much management can do.
I've told my managers that I am not interested in overtime, and will be working my time every day from here on out. I do indoor and outdoor absorbing, if I have time, but if I know I won't have time to complete, I tell them and leave them the stress of sorting it. Is this not what happens in every office? If it is proper bullying, then call the helpline, but if it is more subtle pressurising to do more work than you feel capable, then I think we have to collectively get some backbone and stand up for ourselves.
It seems an easier way than weeks of debate, which doesn't seem to be going anywhere. If you work this way, your stress levels should drop, and as long as you work at a moderate pace, your body shouldn't suffer.

Forget striking, how about work to rule, take breaks, work to your time and use the equipment.
No loss of money, and adequate headaches for management.

Let's look to protect members from reality not some utopian nirvana where we all stand together and then go down the pub for a pint and a sing song.I appreciate the sentiment but lets not get too carried away.
Newbie on a temp contract vs wank manager is not a fair fight especially if his colleagues are elbowing him out of the way to get out the door.....
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Its one thing struggling to pay the bills, but when it comes to the kids potentially missing out on presents.
That's another whole kettle of fish. They would not understand why there are no presents under the tree.
And its unfair to ask them to either.
I want to see smiles on my kids faces not tears.
So about time CWU came up with the goods, or they can pack up and piss off.
Good grief, you could always get to work on next years John Lewis advert....

Because the CWU know full well half the workforce won't stick to it. They can't even get close to stopping people coming in early every day despite trying for years.Postaltony wrote:Forget striking, how about work to rule, take breaks, work to your time and use the equipment.

dingo wrote:It really is funny that now you have lots of people who were previously shaky on a strike suddenly giving it the big one and calling a seven day extension.
Do you really think our negotiators would have agreed to a further 7 day extension if there is not a very good prospect of a deal. Yes still work to be done but the union confident of a ground breaking deal.
The membership voted in an industrial action ballot that they are prepared to take industrial action in defence of they pay, pensions , terms and conditions and job security.
Now the CWU are confident of getting an agreement which will be subject to an individuals members ballot without any member losing a seconds worth of pay. Yet most of the posters want to go out cause it looks good or feels good ? Its about getting the right agreement not letting of steam.
I have been out plenty of times but the aim has alway been to get a deal. Some of you need to have a little bit more faith and surely you can wait 7 days.

It doesn't matter how long you have been in the job, if you want to just work your hours, you can do, and there is no reason to be frightened into anything else. We need more members to educate new starters to this fact. They cannot touch you if you are working to the guidelines and your contracted hours.fishtank wrote:Have you been on the gin?BernardBresslaw wrote:Can't a lot of the issues involving deliveries be sorted on a local level? You may have a point with permanent contracted staff, but dont forget many are now on fixed term/zero hour contracts. These people have no protection against a wan.k manager that terminates contracts or provides very few hours.

Of course they can, everybody makes mistakes.BernardBresslaw wrote:They cannot touch you if you are working to the guidelines and your contracted hours.
Not everyone can handle being watched every minute of the day, having their performance questioned every day,not knowing whether their 3 month contract will be renewed, being shoved onto all the shitty jobs every day, being pushed and prodded and goaded into saying something you regret and working your contracted hours isn't much fun when it's 22hrs and you have a family to feed.
What you're talking about works for some but not for all, that's obvious given the amount of bullying reports the union is getting,as a union we have to look to protect the weakest, not make big speeches about what "everybody" should be doing.
We all know what in an ideal world everybody should be doing but this isn't an ideal world.

My point was that we should be looking after the 'weakest' on an office level and not allowing them to be bullied. Get them into the union and support each other.fishtank wrote:Of course they can, everybody makes mistakes.BernardBresslaw wrote:They cannot touch you if you are working to the guidelines and your contracted hours.
