Payroll

Post by bongo_fury »

Hi.

I had a letter from HMRC today, demanding money from me due to a shortfall in income tax for 2023-2024. As the blurb in the calculation breakdown wasn't clear enough (some vague reference to 'interest') I 'phoned HMRC, who looked at several payslips for the previous financial year and concluded that there were errors with payroll's tax calculations: Not just rounding errors of a couple of pence that are usually compensated for the following week, but larger unresolved ones, which of course all mounted up. Now I've got to find fifty-something quid because of some knob in Payroll that can't add up.

Has anyone else had this problem lately? The guy at HMRC told me I was the fifth R.M. employee with the same query that day. Have we got our own Horizon-type problem going on?

Was it about £50?
Isn't this due to there being 53 pay days in the last financial year?

I think both the union and RM informed us this was going to happen.
Nothing to do with anyone not being able to add up.
Nothing like a Horizon scandal.
More Blacks.
More Dogs.
More Irish.
Less chocolate.

No, doubt it. HMRC said there were some big errors on some of the payslips they sampled. I don't remember being told about the 53rd pay day, etc.
