Staff at Royal Mail sorting office self-isolating following coronavirus case in Denbighshire

A number of staff at a Denbighshire sorting office are self-isolating following a confirmed case of coronavirus.

The Royal Mail said one positive case of the virus has been reported at the Ruthin sorting office on St Peter's Square.

In a post shared on social media, Rhys Hilditch Roberts, North Wales logistics manager for Royal Mail, said: “Just wanted to give a brief update and apologies from Royal Mail.

“Unfortunately we have had an unforeseen medical incident in Ruthin, which has resulted in local deliveries being affected.

“We will endeavour during this period to deliver all available mails based upon available resources.

“Please in the event of any urgent Special Delivery items these will be available for collection from the local Delivery Office.”

Postmaster of Ruthin Post Office, Huw Hilditch Roberts, added he was “working really closely” with Royal Mail to ensure all important parcels are accessible and will be available at the post office for collection.

A Royal Mail Spokesperson said: “A number of members of staff are self-isolating through the Test and Trace service at Ruthin.

“We are working hard to provide the most comprehensive service we are able to.

“Throughout this crisis, every decision we make puts the health of our people and customers first.

“We were the first UK company to put in place social-distancing measures in relation to parcel delivery. We pioneered contact-free delivery.

“Standard ways of working have been revised to ensure that colleagues stay two metres apart.


“Despite our best endeavours, it is possible that some areas of the country may on occasion experience a temporary reduction in service levels due to coronavirus-related absences and necessary social distancing measures at their local mail centre or delivery office.

“In such cases, we always work hard to get back to providing a normal service as quickly as we can.
