Manager and masks

Post by Deanboy »

Home Countries North - acting manager is covid denier and walks round without mask. When instructed to goes sick with stress. What chance have we got with these people as they will be back at work again soon.

Trust – How do we build trusted relationships across all levels of our business?

Bout time we started grassing on these scumbags

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low life c***s they have always been.

This is a national disgrace tbh, I genuinely can't wear a mask for a long period of time but thanks to understanding managers and colleagues they bought me a visor thing I can wear all day.

The current system of just saying yeah I can't wear one is a joke. I know of 2/3 people that genuinely can't, fair enough they got medical records and proof... but there's also a large group that continually don't wear masks and have no proof apart from "their word", its at least 10-15 people in that area. Managers and union reps are just turning a blind eye so what can you do.

Rm has caused this problem themselves by not implementing a mask rule when it was obvious it was needed. Then when it eventually did it was at least 4 months too late.

Can I wear a visor instead of a face covering?
Existing PHE guidance has been updated with additional guidance on use of face visors, which advises that a face visor or shield may be worn in addition to a face covering but not instead of one. This is because face visors or shields do not adequately cover the nose and mouth.

There is someone in my office who cannot wear a face covering for medical or other reasons what should they do?

We recognise that some employees are unable to wear face coverings for medical or other reasons, and that they are not practical to wear for some activities in certain job roles, e.g. in a call centre where full social distancing measures are in place.

Managers should request evidence of an exemption and can keep records that employees have met the criteria for the exemption but should not record the specific reason as this is not necessary, even if the employee shares this with the manager. Ideally a letter from the GP confirming the employee has a valid exemption reason is sufficient. Employees with an exemption certificate which can be printed off from various online sites or employees wearing a sunflower lanyard still need to present evidence for managers to review.

Speak to your line manager if you have questions or concerns.

Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard discreetly indicates to people around you including staff, colleagues and health professionals that you may need additional support, help or a little more time. Not all disabilities are visible – some are hidden and not immediately obvious, such as learning difficulties, mental health as well as mobility, speech, visual or hearing impairments. Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to identify, acknowledge or understand the challenges you face.
The sunflower lanyard is only intended for people with a hidden disability or an underpinning health condition. It is not for just general use if you cannot wear a face covering.

For those people with a hidden disability or underpinning health condition wearing the Sunflower is entirely a choice.
The Sunflower lanyard can be requested via line managers who can order via the an excel form here (R M Intranet link)and then e-mailing it to uniform@royalmail.com. Requests will be collated daily and despatched via our network. Please note there is a seven working day lead time, therefore lanyards will be available from w/c 30 November. These lanyards will include an auto release safety clip, employees wearing their own versions will need to ensure they meet the same standard.

Employees may wear similar identification to make it clear they are subject to medical or other exemption to wearing a face covering. The web page gives further detail on this. https://hiddendisabilitiesstore.com/, other options are available.

We call the ones in our office that don't wear them ' Tonto's', because only the Lone Ranger wore one.

Those that provide evidence of exemption can choose to wear a visor only. Anyone else can wear a visor, but only with a face covering as well

When you do not need to wear a face covering
Royal Mail Group fully recognises that some employees are unable to wear face coverings for medical or psychological reasons which covers a wide range of illnesses, impairments or disability. Managers must be mindful and respectful of such circumstances and will work jointly with Union Representatives to ensure these employees are not penalised or otherwise discriminated against based on exemption. Some people are less able to wear face coverings, and the reasons for this may not be visible to others. Face shields are an option for those employees that cannot wear a face covering (NOTE: Face Shields alone are not a suitable alternative for any employee who doesn’t have a genuine, evidenced exemption).
