Masks
My line manager offered masks yesterday at our RDC.
MyRoyalMail;
Temporary use of face masks - please refer to the updated guidlines here.
RMG Coronavirus Response
Use of Masks
Public Health England does not currently advise the use of face masks in public places and for those working in supermarkets, waste collection, schools and similar settings. This is on the basis that there is very little evidence of widespread benefit from the use of face masks outside of the clinical or care settings, where they play a very important role.
To be effective, face masks must be worn correctly, changed frequently, removed properly, disposed of safely and used in combination with good universal hygiene behaviour. Research shows that compliance with these recommended behaviours reduces over time when wearing face masks for prolonged periods, such as in the community.
Even if you are wearing a mask it is important to maintain the two meters social distancing rule wherever possible and maintain good hand hygiene.
Provision of Masks in Royal Mail
Where we have identified specific roles or tasks where observing the 2m physical distancing is at times difficult, FFP2 masks are being provided where stocks are available. However, in these cases the 2m physical distancing must be observed whenever possible and hand hygiene rules, including not touching the mouth, nose and eyes or before eating must continue to be observed. Masks will also be available for those who wish to wear one.
Specific roles or tasks:
• Air Hubs: Loading and Unloading of Universal Load Containers (ULDs).
• Tasks where a two-person lift is unavoidable.
• Engineering tasks that require close working.
• Where identified by a local risk assessment.
FFP1 masks are on order and will be made available for other employees who wish to use them from their managers. Employees choosing to wear masks should be aware they are not recommended by PHE for general use against the coronavirus and instead the primary preventative guidance remains as hand hygiene and social distancing guidelines.
Employees that wear masks should always adhere to hand washing and social distancing guidance. There is a risk that wearing a mask leads to a relaxed attitude to hand washing and social distancing and it is very important to adhere to the preventative guidance.
Wearing a Mask
How to wear a mask:
• Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
• Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.

Masks
Was sorting packets today and there was a used mask and gloves in the middle of the york.
I told the manager I wasn't touching any more from that york and went and had a good wash. He pushed the york aside, don't know what happened after that.
What sort of cretin would leave their used mask and gloves in a york like that?

Without the eye protection they will not stop you getting the virus. However, they could stop you passing it on if you have it and don't show symptoms. So if everyone wore a mask this would clearly reduce the number of infections from carriers that show no symptoms. Anyway, you don't need a high grade mask for this, a home made mask or even snood, scarf would do the same job and its what the Americans are telling the public to do, any piece of cloth to cover your mouth basically.

Easter Sunday is in 3 days time. The current confirmed death toll is just below 8000. Do you really think there will be another 42,000 confirmed deaths due covid-19 in 3 days?twoloops wrote:Bit late for masks now, should be looking at 50,000 deaths from CV in the UK by Easter Sunday, be safe out there.
We are all concerned but this kind of exaggerated scare mongering helps no one.

They’re wrong about Easter Sunday but a study by the University of Washington's School of Medicine released this week predicted 66,000 people would die of Covid-19 in the UK by early August, making us the worst hit European country. This article does say there’s a lot of skepticism around that but given we exceeded Italy’s highest daily death toll figure yesterday I think we’ll be doing well to come in at under 20,000 deaths, as previously hoped. 50,000 seems about right, sadly.

Exactly, the point of a mask only works if all use them, the company is just trying to stop individuals who feel unsafe from walking out. They should implement a mandatory mask policy for all, in doors, which of course they should supply.

Same sorts who leave their filthy gloves on the ips, trays, letter bags and so on. Don`t make me start about the ones found in boxes along with other stuff like dog poo bags, broken glass and condoms...Spartacus wrote:Was sorting packets today and there was a used mask and gloves in the middle of the york.

TBH the only way most people will be able to get back to work pre-vaccine/cure is if everyone is made to wear a mask/snood, anything that covers the mouth when they work indoors and possible even when they are outdoors. Otherwise we will be locked down until a vaccine or cure is found, which could be over a year away. Anyway wearing something over your mouth only works if EVERYONE has to do it otherwise it is pointless.Flashman_ wrote:twiddledumb wrote:Without the eye protection they will not stop you getting the virus.
