Apologies if this has already been discussed, and of you want to remove this then do so.
I've not posted on here for a while, I use the FB page more than this.
I recently posted this on Facebook as I can't seem to find the relevant contact information to send this direct to the CWU, or am I looking in the wrong places online. Only email address I can find is for new members on the CWU website.
I've no idea if this has been discussed by those at the top, but please, can someone at the CWU or even Royal Mail, clarify the situation with regards to the test kits that have to be collected after they have been used by those concerned.
When is the delivery and collection of test kits due to start and what is actually going to happen when it eventually does so? Posties are, in all probability, going to refuse to touch these test kits as they do not have the correct PPE at all to do so and it is a major concern to say the least. Using an inverted bag to collect said items from a post box does not fill people with confidence at all.
Do posties collect them on their rounds? Or is there, as I heard today, a "specialist team" dedicated to each area to do these collections and that they are kitted out with the correct, and relevant PPE to collect the test kits from any, and all designated postboxes, and are these post boxes purely for the test kits alone or are they still for ALL mail or is that incorrect?
Also if a test kit gets damaged, either in the post box or elsewhere, what happens then with regards to mail that comes in to contact with it and who clears the box and carries out a deep clean etc, as this would have to be reported to the relevant DO it has to be taken to.
Here's an idea for you to mull over.
Why not use Hospitals, and/or local Health Centres, as drop off points after the tests have been carried out by those concerned. That way no mail is in danger of possibly being contaminated.
They, the Hospital staff, have all the relevant PPE etc available, and the know how with regards to safety and storage of medical materials that have to be sent through the post.
Those people who are going to receive, and use, these test kits after self testing can then take them to their local hospitals or Health Centres and place these test kits in a safe and secure box that can be collected, after the said container has been filled and sealed by an authorised person wearing full PPE to ensure that nobody comes in to contact with the test kits at all they can then be collected by posties in a safe and secure manner on a daily basis.
Or is that not workable?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Covid-19 Test kits - Collection issues
Hi , is everyone happy about collecting these used testing kits , we have cheap gloves and today I was given plastic bags that all had holes in and they expect me to fish them out of a post box full of letters ! It’s a complete shambles and dangerous they should be bagged up like special delivery mail cable tied , what is my position if I don’t what to do this collection as I don’t feel safe?? Collections is a part of my duty not overtime
