Checking on the elderly

Post by Seymour Buts »

The CWU really need to stop putting this forward. They're trying to win public support conjuring up images of the good old days when we did stuff like this, but in the current climate it is completely irresponsible. Old people are high risk and need to be seeing as few people as possible. The only people the elderly should be seeing are healthcare workers, which we certainly ain't. Also, proposals like the further allienaint many of the part time staff we need on side. If you're a reserve with a few years under your belt doing five or six different jobs everyweek you ain't gonna have a clue who is elderly on x walk. It reinforces in the minds of those part timers that the union is only interested in looking after the old school full timers.

As someone said in another post you have to be vetted for this. I had to be vetted once just to go to a care home and push an old lady in her wheelchair to church.

I don't think it means actually entering the house and assessing them. It just means if you know where an elderly person lives alone then it's just keeping on eye out for them. Checking for signs like mail building up, curtains always closed when usually they are open, a few days of them not waving at you if they usually do, perhaps a quick look in a window if you are concerned. It's just common sense and a little community spirit in these difficult times.
