Telegraph article on clarification of posties key worker status.

Post by Celgar »

A link came up on my tablet via Google to a Telegraph newspaper article I guess for today or tomorrow. The title read something along the lines of the CWU disputing the key worker status of Posties during the virus situation with RM.
I realise the Telegraph is just another rag that often prints inaccurate material but does anyone have any further details in this new dispute between the union & RM ??
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

You have to register but from what I scanned, a CWU spokesperson said that "in three weeks" they would have to "look again" our key worker status.

With the CWU, making an announcement about they nay do is often as good - or better - as actually doing it. Bonus points for it being off in the misty future.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

So far the government has been sending quite a few letters out regarding Covid so it looks like they will try to keep us going as soon as they can.

From a news story we had by the mail...
Royal Mail deliveries could stop as postal workers complain of delivering 'pointless junk mail' during the coronavirus lockdown.

It comes as union leaders are encouraging staff to call in sick, rather than risk catching coronavirus during their daily rounds, The Telegraph reports.

Royal Mail workers were designated as key workers to keep deliveries flowing during the pandemic, but ministers have stopped short of accepting a Communications Workers' Union to become the country's 'fifth emergency service' and deliver only essential supplies such as food, testing kits and medicines'.

'It's not right that postal workers should be risking their lives to deliver pointless junk mail, shopping offers and water pistols,' a CWU spokesman told The Telegraph.

'If the Government doesn’t accept our offer, in three weeks we will have to look again at our support for the key worker status.'

Royal Mail has introduced new rules to keep staff apart in depots, sharing vans has also been put on hold during the pandemic.

Rico Back, Group Chief Executive Officer, Royal Mail, said: 'We are focused on protecting our people, company and the communities we serve during this unprecedented crisis. We are putting the health and well-being of colleagues and customers first.

'At the same time, we are delivering the parcels and letters that are a lifeline for those who cannot leave their homes.'

They'll just get stuck in between a Laura Ashley catalogue and estate agent leaflet, then chucked straight in the recycling.

Crucial. I would bust a gut to deliver that.

That's just lazy arsed journalism.
The union didn't encourage anyone to go sick.
They told members if they thought their safety was compromised that the union would back them if they refused to work.

If you refuse to work you're not sick and you don't get paid.
