Corona virus Action needed

Post by ballee »

I am fed up here with being fobbed off with excuses from our CWU leaders and our so called Royal Mail management that we are key workers and should keep on working, sharing vans, shoulder to shoulder sorting mail, customers who do not keep their distance and no sanitiser or PPE. Why doesn’t Terry Pullinger, Dave Ward or Rico and his top team come and spend the next week in a sorting office and on delivery and the tell us this business should not be restricted in some way until this passes.

Simple reason is they would not dream of taking the same risk they expect the rank and file to take on a daily basis.
What we are doing no other workforce would consider, we are risking our own and our families lives.

Where did all the big Health & Safety campaigns of a few years ago go. This is a different league from dog bites or slips
And trips, get real and start shutting down this business in line with every other caring employer.

We shouldn’t be in work as we are not delivering anything important. On collections today there was a massive drop in traffic so in a couple of days we won’t be delivering much. This virus is serious and we shouldn’t be delivering. The CWU top brass won’t be out on the front line.

Been telling my customers “ open your parcel immediately, dispose of the packaging and wash your hands “
Is that necessary ? “ well , I left the office at 09.15 after washing my hands and they haven’t been washed since , it’s know 14.00 I’ve been touching gates and doors and have run out of hand sanitiser . Oh ! And by the way don’t forget to take advantage of the offer on the Dominoes pizza leaflet . Keep safe and for gods sake wash your hands

Yes. Exactly what I've told my customers. Although the response I get from them isn't why, but an affirmation that they understood the reasoning.

“If you share your car with others who could well have been infected, you are not only posing a threat to yourself but may also be causing the further spread of the infection. The virus particles will be easily trapped in the car and will cling on to areas such as the seat, dashboard and door handles and will be much easier to catch through facial orifices due to the confined space.

“I would strongly suggest not sharing your car with another person who has been exposed to crowds or public transport. A few things you can do to help prevent the spread of the virus is to wear leather gloves when inside the car in case any germs are lurking.

“It may also be a good idea to keep hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes in the car with you so can quickly clean any areas that may be infected, as well as using the sanitiser on your hands after being in the car. SO WHY ARE ROYAL MAIL EXEMPT FROM THIS ADVICE ??

Only thing I can think that we deliver that would be deemed as important is NHS stuff and I can't see a reason why they can't identify that mail and single it out for delivery. Can't think of anything else people must 100% got to have delivered through their door.

IT ALL STEMS FROM THIS:

government are allowing non essential work to continue. That’s the problem.

Social distancing is constantly fighting profit. That conflict needs to be removed.

Just seen the service update on rm website. We are open as usual for business, The delivery of parcels and letters is a way of keeping the country together. Yep, crap d2d and and a screw fix catalogue is what everyone needs to help us get through this. Come on Rico, life's before profit.
