Hi all;
I was just wondering if anybody knew what we were allowed to do in regards to delivering to retirement homes as obviously they are at a much higher risk to the virus. I deliver to a retirement home with 62 calls and they all have an individual letter box on their doors. A lot of the residents have severe health issues. If I was told by the manager of the home that they wanted all mail to be delivered to the main office and their staff would distribute the mail would I be allowed to do that or not? The manager at the home I deliver to said they are considering putting in to place measures to stop the spread of the virus, including limiting who can enter the home. Would I need to get the home to contact the delivery office to put something in place?
I deliver to a care home, I don't even go in the building, I just put the mail through the letterbox just like any other address. This has been the case even before all this and is at their request.

There isn't a mail box for the whole address, theres a secure entry system to get in and then after that all residents have their own letter boxes on their doors

They didn't have one up until quite recently and also have a secure entry system. I got fed up with them not answering the door sometimes so I started taking their mail back. They soon got a letterbox after that.
I have a place like this on my route, not a care home but private flats with a manager and office, legally we have to deliver to every address but I would imagine if the home manager contacts your manager common sense will prevail. And save you some legwork!

Any pensioner with corona wont still be in their home very long
Mortality rate is worst in those over 80 years old at 15%-20%.
So at least 80%-85% are surviving.
We're only a couple of months into this so the mortality rates for over 80s could be higher given that many of them may still be in hospital or at home receiving some kind of treatment.
Still alive as yet and surviving the illness might be two different things.
It might be more relevant if we knew how many have so far made a full back to normal recovery.

Yes you absolutely need to run this by your manager. This is unprecedented as just writing a letter and asking for all mail to be delivered to the front office would always be denied, however we clearly are in special circumstances.
Let your manager make the decision on this.

My DOM advised that the mail can be given to the Home Manager if she requests it. Maybe I should get it in writing or at least ask for confirmation in front of Union Rep.

Do it, you could be putting peoples lives at risk, get your rep on the case ect but do it now. Don't wait, very slim chance you would get in trouble for it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
