New starters to get sick pay through the Coronavirus period :

Post by POSTMAN »

3:32 Of this video, the video is in other posts, put in here for reference to those who have less than 1 year's service.
And it's for Coronavirus related absences only.

A colleague has less than a year’s service and is worried about losing pay if they go off with symptoms of coronavirus.

Exceptionally, to support employees who should not be attending work, Royal Mail has temporarily changed the sick pay for employees with less than a year’s service.

Where the absence is related to coronavirus, these employees will receive the same sick pay as employees with over a year’s service.

This will be in place until the end of July 2020 - our current expectation is that our normal approach to sick pay will apply for employees with less than a year’s service from 1st August 2020.

UPDATED 6 JULY 2020

The same arrangements remain in place and due to be reviewed again at the end of March.

I have an employee who has had a lot of absence in the last year and if they are absent again will be on half-pay. Will there be any different arrangements for them if they have to self-isolate?

Royal Mail’s Sick Pay and Sick Pay Conditions policy will continue to apply.
The sick pay an employee will receive will be determined by the sick pay and sick pay policy conditions.

ABOVE STILL THE SAME 6 July 2020

Exceptionally, Royal Mail has temporarily changed the sick pay for employees with less than a year’s service.
We will pay Royal Mail sick pay to employees who have less than a year’s service and who do not qualify for Royal Mail Sick Pay when their absence is due to coronavirus. This will be in place until 1st August 2020 when it will be reviewed and may be extended. We will continue to monitor the situation and may change this.

New starters to get sick pay through the Coronavirus period : Ending 1st August 2020?

Post by POSTMAN »

The date of 1st August corresponds with the end of shielding (in England, Scotland and N.Ireland). This is the point that we would anticipate that employees with serious underlying ill-health will be able to return to work, hence the potential readoption of the normal sick pay terms and conditions from this point onwards.

I'm no expert so someone smarter will have to explain the connection between shielding and new starts getting sick pay for self-isolation.

You might as well have linked it to when you can go ten pin bowling again.

And what about our Welsh colleagues?

What is the current position on this, please? I started on 24hr contract (Driving and Delivery) 6th April 2021 so 15 weeks to date. got a text message from Contact Tracing (Northern Ireland) to isolate for 10 days from 21st July 2021. Informed my DO yesterday morning 22-7-2021 that I need to isolate.

Letter came in today stating "I have to advise you that as of 22.07.21 your entitlement to occupational sick pay will reduce to no pay." ...."You may be entitled to receive Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) at the current applicable rate."..... There is a lot more but they are basically treating my isolation time as unpaid absence.

Any advice or official information available please?

OK looked this up and found
https://www.myroyalmail.com/media/coronavirus-qas
FAQ about Coronavirus Guidance communication issued 20th July 2021. V6.2_0.pdf. Appears that from 3rd May employees with less than a years' service will only get SSP.

See my note at bottom. This information differs from the COROANVIRUS GUIDANCE - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Version 87: 27 May 2021 that is posted in this topic viewtopic.php?f=71&t=94715

Page 6.
What are the self-isolation rules?
If you have had recent close contact with someone who has COVID-19, it is a legal requirement for you to self-isolate if the NHS Test and Trace service advises you must do so. You could be fined if you do not do this. If you have received an alert from the NHS COVID-19 app telling you that you have been in close contact with someone who has recently tested positive for coronavirus and you need to self-isolate, whilst this is not a legal requirement, we would expect all colleagues to follow the advice and selfisolate for the required days in line with the app guidance. To protect ourselves, colleagues and customers and in line with our duty of care – further supporting our “Safety First” philosophy.
From 16 August 2021, the government has indicated that the rules on self-isolation for contacts will change. If you are fully vaccinated or under 18, you will not need to self-isolate following close contact with someone who has Covid-19. You will still need to take a PCR test and self-isolate if it’s positive. There may still be cases where people are contacted by NHS Test & Trace and told to selfisolate in which case they must do so.

If an employee has worked less than 12 months in the business, does the joint statement around supporting people apply to them getting paid if they are self-isolating or are not able to attend work due to feeling unwell?
With effect from 3 May 2021 where an absence was/is related to coronavirus, our normal approach to sick pay has applied to all RM Group Ltd employees; employees with less than a year’s service receive statutory sick pay.

For employees who have completed 12 months service will they receive full pay if they are selfisolating or are not able to attend work due to feeling unwell?
With effect from 3 May 2021 where an absence was/is related to coronavirus, our normal approach to sick pay has applied to all RM Group Ltd employees.

Will CEV members have any absence discounted in line with our agreement and LTB of 2nd July 2021?
Yes, we will continue to support all colleagues, including CEV colleagues in relation to any Covid-19 related absence. We continue to expect most coronavirus related absences to be discounted from the normal attendance procedure. However, where coronavirus absences are for an excessive
duration or repeat in nature, this may need to be reviewed.

This information differs from the COROANVIRUS GUIDANCE - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Version 87: 27 May 2021 that is posted in this topic. If this information was released 27th May why does it not mention that the approach changed on 3rd May 2021?

For colleagues who are self-isolating due to COVID-19 from 11 January 2021, the following will apply:
• Our normal approach to sick pay will continue to apply to all Royal Mail Group Ltd employees with over a year’s service
• As we did for the first lockdown, exceptionally to support employees who should not be attending work, Royal Mail has temporarily changed the sick pay for employees with less than a year’s service. Where the absence is related to coronavirus, these employees will receive the same sick pay as employees with over a year’s service
• This will be in place until the end of March 2021, when it will be reviewed and may be extended. We will continue to monitor the situation and may change this

Anyone with less than a years service does not get Royal Mail sick pay, only ssp.
