I have been made aware by someone I know in the BN area that one office in their area has had a major outbreak of Covid. When I say major I believe that 30 out of 40 odd staff are affected one way or another. Approximately 20 have Covid as it ripped through the place, 5 sent home unjabbed and another half a dozen have said they are no longer prepared to act like sitting ducks. Apparently 10 days ago some staff were displaying symptoms and were told to have a drink and they’d feel better once out in the fresh air. This last week has seen the virus tear through the staff and on Wednesday (I think) the remaining workers walked out saying the place needed closing and cleaning and the staff to be sent home until it cleared.
Area/Regional managers eventually turned up (I believe it took them 2-3 hours to get there) and spent the day sneering at the staff’s concerns. After leaving the staff standing in the cold for the entirety of their 8 hour shift in the car park they said they would have the place cleaned. Fast forward to the next morning and the office was just as filthy and it was apparent no proper clean had been done. That day and the next more staff tested positive and eventually half a dozen staff said they were no longer prepared to put their and their families H&S at risk. One option they were given was to go to another office - SERIOUSLY? The business wanted to send potentially infected people into another office so it could spread there!!! The staff have now signed themselves off with stress due to the working conditions.
Apparently on Saturday all managers from neighbouring offices were sent by the area manager into the infected office to deal with the staggering amount of mail building up. Again these people have been knowingly sent into a highly contaminated office to work only to now take the virus back to their families and work places!!
All of this has been done to try and get Tracked out which has been a miserable failure anyhow as there is simply too much work to handle. Apparently the office is so rammed that nobody can walk around so absolutely zero social distancing can happen, yet this was one of the conditions that the staff were assured would be put in place if they went back in after the Wednesday(?) walkout. Apparently there are now only about 8 staff working now (putting their overtime ahead of their safety).
Thoughts?

Re: Severe Covid Outbreak
Doen't matter anymore jabbed or un-jabbed, the viral load is now the same to jabbed and un-jabbed have an equal chance of spreading/catching it.GRS wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 09:45I have been made aware by someone I know in the BN area that one office in their area has had a major outbreak of Covid. There's no way that a deep clean could be done on such short notice, RM probably use external contractors for deep cleans and they might not necessarily have any free slots

Re: Severe Covid Outbreak
Has anybody contacted the area H&S rep - or Branch, to try and get some "non RM" input into the situation?

Re: Severe Covid Outbreak
I just need to know if all the tracked items have been cleared because we ALL know this is the only thing any managers / Area managers genuinely care about
Boss : You left a parcel behind are you going to do it today?
Me : is it tracked?
Boss : No, just a recorded 1st Class..
Me : does it have to be done today?
Boss : no.. just leave it until tomorrow then

Re: Severe Covid Outbreak
This news is hardly surprising and will replicate across RMG offices.
Piss Poor management of Covid Saftey practices right from the start.
How many working hours are lost due lack of effective Covid measures, must be costing RM millions, not mentioning the health & welfare of employees
They’ve really got their head in the sand.

Re: Severe Covid Outbreak
I'm double jab and boostered, and would not knowingly walk into a s**t fest place that was full of Covid, just saying.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Severe Covid Outbreak
Or the health and safety executive - literally the first result on Google when you type in health and safety. It’s a disgraceful situation but....if you’re stood out in the freezing car park for 8 hours surely just one of them could contact CWU, HSE, local MP (hmm maybe not), even the press. There’s no way I’d be stood there for 8 hours being sneered at and not taken 5 minutes to look at the options available.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
