When to self-isolate
Self-isolate straight away and get a PCR test (a test that is sent to the lab) on GOV.UK as soon as possible if you have any of these 3 symptoms of COVID-19, even if they are mild:
a high temperature
a new, continuous cough
a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
You should also self-isolate straight away if:
you've tested positive for COVID-19 – this means you have the virus
someone you live with has symptoms or tested positive (unless you are not required to self-isolate – check below if this applies to you) (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavir ... id-19-app/)
you've been told to self-isolate following contact with someone who tested positive – find out what to do if you're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If you're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app
This advice is for people who have been told to stay at home (self-isolate) by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app.
Self-isolate immediately
If you're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app:
self-isolate immediately
do not leave your home for any reason – if you need food or medicine, order it online or by phone, or ask friends and family to drop it off at your home
do not have visitors in your home, including friends and family – except for essential care
try to avoid contact with anyone you live with as much as possible
any people you live with and any people in your support bubble do not need to self-isolate if you do not have symptoms
Your self-isolation period includes the day you were last in contact with the person who tested positive and the next 10 full days.
If you live with someone at higher risk from COVID-19, try to arrange for them to stay with friends or family while you're self-isolating.
If you have to stay in the same home together, read about how to avoid spreading COVID-19 to people you live with.
If you get symptoms of COVID-19
Get a PCR test (test that is sent to a lab) as soon as possible if you get any symptoms of COVID-19 (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste) while you're self-isolating.
Anyone you live with must self-isolate until you’ve been tested and received your result
What to do when you get your test result
If you test negative:
keep self-isolating for the rest of the 10 days – you could still get symptoms after being tested
anyone you live with can stop self-isolating if they do not have symptoms
If you test positive:
the 10 days restarts from the day after your symptoms started – this will mean you're self-isolating for longer than 10 days overall
anyone you live with must self-isolate for 10 days, counting from the day after your symptoms started
Read more about how long to self-isolate.
If you do not get symptoms of COVID-19
If you do not get any symptoms of COVID-19 while self-isolating:
you can stop self-isolating after the 10 days
you do not need to have a test
How you'll be contacted
If you've been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 and need to self-isolate, you may get:
an email, text or phone call from NHS Test and Trace – text messages will come from NHStracing and calls will come from 0300 0135 000
an alert from the NHS COVID-19 app
Children under 18 will be contacted by phone wherever possible and asked for their parent or guardian's permission to continue the call.
You'll be asked to sign in to the NHS Test and Trace contact tracing website at https://contact-tracing.phe.gov.uk.
If you cannot use the contact tracing website, they will call you.

Re: pinged while on delivery
Thank you for your email.
Individuals should really review the relevant online guidance for the nation in which they live as there are subtle differences.
However, across all 4 nations, unvaccinated individuals who are pinged are required to isolate for the full 10 day period. There’s no option to end isolation early for the unvaccinated.
Kind Regards,
James. People Case Advice Team

Re: pinged while on delivery : Unvaccinated
I was pinged the other day but i'm vaccinated so was told not to isolate.Just in case me and a colleague who was also pinged booked tests down the road from our office.
It was surreal going from one minute being treated like a leper in the drive through test site to walking back into our office and just carrying on like normal.
Mind you the lino kept his distance today after we told him we were still waiting for the result.

Re: pinged while on delivery : Unvaccinated
So the unvaccinated moan about a 2 tier system regarding COVID passports etc. Yet they are allowed to miss work and isolate on an ongoing basis due to their choice not to vaccinate. They are right it is a 2 tier system but in their favour. Not a dig at the unvaccinated by the way but I’m sure most can see this isn’t a level playing field .

Re: pinged while on delivery : Unvaccinated
I suspect going forward if you choose not to be vaccinated then you're unlikely to receive pay during your isolation period, probably only SSP.

I can’t see that happening while taking the vaccine isn’t mandatory.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑18 Sep 2021, 18:30I suspect going forward if you choose not to be vaccinated then you're unlikely to receive pay during your isolation period, probably only SSP.

Re: pinged while on delivery : Unvaccinated
It's really nothing to do with whether the vaccination is mandatory or not, Royal Mail aren't obliged to pay full pay for isolation whether you're vaccinated or not.Caesar wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 11:55I can’t see that happening while taking the vaccine isn’t mandatory.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑18 Sep 2021, 18:30I suspect going forward if you choose not to be vaccinated then you're unlikely to receive pay during your isolation period, probably only SSP.
This is from their sick pay policy..
I would say refusing vaccination without a genuine medical reason would definitely fall under "reasons within your control".If you ignore a doctors advice or you're sick due to reasons within your control, or you don’t cooperate with Royal Mail, sick pay may be refused.

Re: pinged while on delivery : Unvaccinated
I agree that Royal Mail aren’t obliged to pay full pay for isolation but they have to treat everybody the same. Much the same as if you had back pain and chose not to take medication.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 12:36

I won’t comment on taking the vaccine.

Morrisons is trying this: https://employeebenefits.co.uk/morrison ... d-workers/Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑18 Sep 2021, 18:30I suspect going forward if you choose not to be vaccinated then you're unlikely to receive pay during your isolation period, probably only SSP.
My feelings about it can be summed up in this passage from the linked article:
"Lawyers and union representatives have warned that there is a risk employees will avoid isolating when they should do so, as the lack of sick pay will impact their financial wellbeing. They also stated that the supermarket could also face discrimination claims over this, particularly from workers with disabilities who could medically get the vaccine but had decided against it".
