Wonder if this has happened to anyone else .. got pinged Tuesday, told to self isolate for 4 days, not been anywhere, stuck to the rules, went to bed last night with message from covid app saying good news your self isolation is nearly over ... Was going back to work today, woke up this morning to another ping telling me to self isolate for a further 6 days!! Not been in contact with anyone but my wife and she hasn't been pinged ...

Well the isolation period is usually 10 days so maybe that's why you got an extra 6 added to the initial 4.
No idea why it was 4 initially though.
As for why you got pinged in the first place, who knows?
Maybe you were in sufficient contact with someone without realising or maybe someone put you down as a contact. Or maybe it's an error.

I think it's based on bluetooth and just quickly googled, depending on what version of bluetooth the range can be anything up to about 300m

Thanks for replies, rang test and trace, they think I was pinged for 4 days for one person, in the meantime another person I was in contact with tested positive, generating a second ping ... Work not happy!

I've just been pinged for 3 days self isolation. Hows that work when you're was 4 ?

According to test and trace, depends when you were last in contact with the person who tested positive .. to be honest, I don't understand it, just as I don't understand how I got pinged a second time while self isolating ...

Are people taking or RM taking this seriously . Is it law to self isolate? I suppose it's feet up time

Like I said, work weren't happy I got pinged a second time - hinted the app must be faulty .. Asked me to ring test and trace, and also asked me to order a test, even though I have no symptoms ... Apparently, 12 in our office got pinged this week ..

Who did? There is no reason, at the moment anyway, to turn the app off.

If 'pinged' by the app then it's not a legal requirement, but if told by Test & Trace then it is.

Contact with a positive case goes back 48hrs prior to them getting symptoms so it could have been on the day your first ping arrived for the first person.
The reason isolation durations differ depends on when the positive person took a test and their results came back so several days may have passed already.
The ping from the nhs app is advisory, a ping from the original covid 19 app or contact direct from test and trace is a legal requirement.

The line manager I talked to hinted he thought contact tracing should be turned off at work otherwise it will 'decimate the business'.
