Dr Shaun Davis : Further update on lockdown easing: Van sharing and face coverings ( RMG retains the right to mandate face coverings in line with a risk assessment and based on infection rate data)
Further update on lockdown easing:
Following my earlier updates, I said that I would continue to update you on any changes to the way we operate given the upcoming changes in restrictions.
We are currently concluding discussions with our CWU colleagues on the next steps, having already agreed them with Unite/CMA.
We will be providing further guidance on Monday (19th July 2021) relating to van sharing and social distancing, but we wanted to clarify the position on face coverings:
In England, from Monday 19th July 2021, all employees are strongly encouraged to continue to use face coverings when working inside, particularly in enclosed, crowded workspaces (wearing the Royal Mail Group branded 3-ply face covering or equivalent).
In Northern Ireland face coverings remain mandatory until 26th July 2021.
In Scotland and Wales face coverings remain mandatory until further notice.
Royal Mail Group retains the right to mandate face coverings in line with a risk assessment review and based on infection rate data.
We remain committed to keeping our people safe and this is our number one priority.
Please continue to operate with all other existing standards remaining in place.
Thank you for your patience this week as we worked through this and I will keep you updated as we move forwards.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Therefore it is not mandatory to wear it inside the office. Royal Mail are advising people to but not saying you have to like it currently is. Inside the vans if van sharing goes ahead I believe they have said that is compulsory.

Obviously the union and Royal Mail are not seeing eye to eye on the subject.
This is a copy and paste of a Royal Mail statement not a joint statement.

Please read the statement peeps, IF your area has gone to pot with mass infections etc, the business can order everyone who are able to, to wear a mask.
Let's be honest, if your area has gone to s**t, why would you not?

All a bit vague until we hear the lowdown on Monday, but at least there is some temporary common sense about the crazy proposal of van sharing.

Royal Mail & Union obviously finding it hard to agree to a definitive process regarding shared vans as talks have been happening all week.
There is trouble in our unit where people do not wish to share a van with some body NOT double jabbed or with somebody that does not wear a mask. Understandable and i think people should have the choice. I would not be surprised if the sticky point is whether its mandatory or voluntary.
It will sort itself out
Power to the union

At the end of the day, sharing vans and not wearing masks is going to spread the virus and I read a
double jab is only just over 80% effective, that's before we factor in all the customers and staff who haven't had the first jab.
50k new cases today.

What does it have to do with customers? You shouldn’t be in contact with them if you are following the correct procedures.

It does work both ways if you can choose to only work with those that have been jabbed then you can choose to work with those that haven’t, as you say personal choice

It really doesn't work both ways because it's not a case of personal choice. It does work both ways if you can choose to only work with those that have been jabbed then you can choose to work with those that haven’t, as you say personal choice
You will have to put a coherent argument forward in both cases and the case for not sharing with someone who's been double jabbed is what exactly? David Ike said?
