So we are in the same position as last March.
My wife had two or three letters telling her to shield as she is in a critically vulnerable postion with COPD.
Indeed I would have received the same if I had still been receiving immunotherapy treatment for a previous cancer diagnosis but I had stopped having the treatment a couple of years previously so the letter didn't come for me.
We know that after a few weeks of dithering RM introduced full pay furlough for people like me who lived with someone in a CVP.
However,Johnson paused the shielding on 31/7 meaning I had to return to work.
Will the CWU press RM to reintroduce the furlough asap for people like me,and if the employer does not do this what are my options ?
I havent had any sick leave for possibly two years or so now.
I have AL owed but don't really want to use that up.
Any advice greatfully received.

That’s a worrying situation.
Cwu should really push to get shielding reinstated
There’s absolutely no reason why it shouldn’t happen
Furlough money is available from the government ,the uso isn’t there at present
They can run the business on a skeleton of staff if need be .and actually pay that Skeleton of staff more money as they would be saving with furlough money
These offices are certainly not covid secure ,with this new strain . Royal Mail have put lots of measures in place ,which is great ,but when mask wearing ,and social distancing isn’t enforced ,then it makes for a really risky situation that the ignorant will never ever understand

Not in my bloody office. We have already got 4 vacancies not filled, with only one agency staff given to us. Parcells through the roof, one of the worst Christmases any of us have ever seen and people off sick, maternity cover, the list goes on. Sorry but we need every available manpower we can get our hands on. I have every sympathy with the person who needs to protect his family and YES it is a worrying time for us all. Royal Mail need to fill all the vacancies in DO ASAP, plenty of people out there who have lost there jobs.

Got this from my division...
Scotland and Northern Ireland are again moving into lockdown. We are seeking further information on furlough, self isolating and child care issues and will update members when we can.

Your paid to deliver letters and parcels
Not to worry about any of that ,that’s above your pay grade
There is no uso ,they can fail as many deliveries as they want .all that non essential stuff ,is it worth putting peoples lives at risk for ?

Truly tough times.
My heart goes out to you.
This needs moving on and quickly. Somebody up above needs to make a decision and a positive one.
Could likely go on until at least the end of March or when we are vaccinated.

This Lockdown will have probably ended by the time CWU HQ and Royal Mail have reached a decision judging from the recent negotiations
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
