Delivery Option Update - AKA Saturday no letters

I read the word "coronavirus" just once in the entire PPT. So it's clear this has nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with a plan constructed some time ago and basically ready to go.

I think there's only one way round this and the Union have to go with strike action..and letting every news outlet know what RM are playing at.

Talk about dirty tactics..this is a prime example.

And a load off bollocks, nothing will be saved, we still have to deliver the shitty Chinese bangle type packets but instead of on one walk you have to do it on two within five hrs! Most will still be going to 90% of the calls they were anyway so we might as well take the letters with us.
There wont be any extra resource in the week either i have no idea where that idea has come from as we will be working the same hours with no ot allowed on a sat/mon.

Half the staff in but out of them a quarter( depending on office size) will be needed to prep in D2DS?

This is going to be a massive fail.

Will be interesting to see if management are still going home by 11.30 on a Saturday. If so, will those indoor staff prepping D2Ds

1. Play candy crush on their phones for the rest of their shift
2. Sit in the canteen/smoking shelter
3. Leave early
4. Or will they prep all the D2Ds as paid to do.


Not to create an indoor vs outdoor staff battle but I’ll be surprised if come Monday morning all D2Ds have been prepped into the frames.

There's going to be some very unhappy runners in my office if they have to stay and do the proper hours on a Sat! they will still run though and get back to moan about having to wait so long before they can go, they will only do their own d2ds I would imagine then sit around.

It's shock capitalism.

The management have waited for an opportune moment to do this - figuring that everyone will be winded by the pandemic they push this through figuring it will not meet a lot of resistance within the workplace and from those monitoring the standard. It wont even get a lot of intrest anywhere in the current climate.

We have a strike voted for - we should bloody well use it now.

RM will seek an injunction but a judge can't say we can't strike (as was mentioned on one of these posts because of the pandemic) he can only ban it if the ballot was unlawful or the Union have not adhered to agreements with RM. So it may be possible.

The Union are too worried about losing public sympathy. We do not need that - Joe Public has a very short memory - they might be praising us today but another week is another story.

If the Union fail to act now they may as well just go out to pasture for all the use they will be in the future.

The other week a lino gathered us round and said not one of us should be going home early on a Saturday. Someone piped up and said why are no managers around at 2.30 to enforce people are staying and working their hours.

His answer....”because none of the management like staying that late.”

To me that just sums up the company.

They're using a global pandemic and the deaths of thousands to push through ruthless stripping apart of the service and our jobs, because their only aim is to trouser more, and more and more. Off our backs.

They're calling our bluff, thinking there's no way we would strike at this time.

Anyone got any thoughts on rurals,it says carry on as normal so does that mean no change, still deliver letters as well on Saturdays or will the manager be assessing their workload and allocating X number of other duties parcels or what ?

Will it automatically be the non driver in a van share that goes mon-fri?

From what I understand, they want 50% of staff in. So in an office with 50 walks, 25 people.
They want these people to sort parcels, sort mail, then prep every duty with everything that is there, leave all the mail and take the parcels for 2 duties. In that case, I can't see where non drivers fit in. Although, another way of doing it would be 8/9 non driving staff come in early on Saturday and sort all parcels into some type of order, drivers come in, take parcels for 3 duties instead of 2. After they leave, those left in office sort mail on IPS, then prep frames ready for Monday.

Don't think drivers will be doing much prep or D2Ds , it will be a waste of a van.

The flats and letters probably won't get sent out to the DOs on Friday night (probably won't even be touched on MC night shifts) so Monday morning DOs will have all the flats and letters that would have arrived there Friday night/Saturday morning and all the flats and letters that would normally arrive there Sunday night/Monday morning

Having read the document they seem to be counting on people to continue to use their cars to get to their delivery,the union should just say take back their agreement on people doing this.

I wonder if those using their own cars have remembered to update their insurance to business use. Anyone with just Social, Domestic, Pleasure and Commuting will only be insured for travelling to their main place of work and will therefore be driving without valid insurance if they then travel out to start a delivery.

Why do I get the feeling that RM might look into introducing limited deliveries on Sundays (Tracked and SDs for a premium)
