I recently had a FT, who’d started a good hour and a half before me and was on his packets as I walked in, say ‘why don’t you hurry up then’ when I said I’ve my frame to prep and nowhere near my parcels so you might not want to tie up yet. On the odd occasion I’m ahead of those on adjacent rounds, I bring their packets round and ask if they want me to have a quick look through. Maybe I’m just a goody 2 shoes.CHUCKYPIG wrote:There are quite a few of us reserves who are of course happy to work Monday to Friday because otherwise we never know what our day off is from week to week and can't plan our lives accordingly.LouBarlow wrote:People who are happy to see 1/6th of the workforce disappear, as long as they get every Saturday off, are the reason we are in this position right now. People might be happy with a Mon-Fri as a duty holder but the next step will surely be the removal of 'big' parcels from duties and then the collapsing of walks, and who's to say your walk isn't the '1 in 6' that goes.
I don't think that we are selfish c***s.
For quite a while now the union and other full timers have ignored the rights of us part time reserves as its all about protecting their status quo. All union meetings held before our start time. The campaigns all about protecting the rights of the full timers.
I didn't think they were selfish c***s. It was just all about vested interests as it always is.
Well now maybe its a taste of your own medicine.
If I have to do my 5 hours a day and not get any OT I’ll survive - no arguing each week about not being paid OT correctly. If I have to take Saturday, or Tuesday as a fixed day off, so be it, much easier to plan my week. If Rico and co decides my job is starting at 1pm permanently, no problem, I get a nice lazy morning and can plan things better.
I get the feeling for most of us PT staff, as long as we have a job we will adapt a lot more easier than FT colleagues, those with ‘easy’ rounds and people on flyers and doing ghost OT.
Disclaimer: I’ve no issue in general with FT staff, I get on with most of them and maybe I’m jealous that I do as much work as them but have to faff about every day making sure my OT is down correctly.
