What's the union's position on what we should be doing?
Is the unions advice that us posties should agree to this or rebel?

What if that 1/6th of the workforce want to go, who is the selfish c*** then?hero22 wrote:LouBarlow wrote:People who are happy to see 1/6th of the workforce disappear, as long as they get every Saturday off, are the reason we are in this position right now. People might be happy with a Mon-Fri as a duty holder but the next step will surely be the removal of 'big' parcels from duties and then the collapsing of walks, and who's to say your walk isn't the '1 in 6' that goes.
Spot on.
Allowing for natural wastage of course it would be a lot less than 1/6 th who actually left under redundancy terms.
The talk of 20,000 jobs lost means 20.000 jobs fewer in the business, it doesn't mean that those are people out of a job against their will.
The question is can the business sustain those 20,000 jobs?
I know its not a popular view but above all I believe in honesty and the members need to understand the situation completely.

Natural wastage and sustainability are all valid arguments mate but this battle is about our job being changed at the drop of a hat without any consultation. If this is allowed to happen now without any fight back you must see that it will happen again and again. We have battled on with work through tough times and now have been disrespected and our families disrespected too. For me that is unforgivable and no longer can we just sit back and waffle our way through these executive actions.

Change of plans for handling LATs perhaps? Those displaced (jobs lost) could do LAT deliveries with the three "mega hubs" still being used but then instead of having a few LAT delivery hubs, each having dedicated LAT duties (which could mop-up cut-offs, etc if not enough LAT work). LAT items cross-docked to lorries (vans if lorries would be overkill) which would drop off the LAT items to multiple DOs maybe doing a few firms collections on the way backWoody Guthrie wrote:The talk of 20,000 jobs lost means 20.000 jobs fewer in the business, it doesn't mean that those are people out of a job against their will.

There are quite a few of us reserves who are of course happy to work Monday to Friday because otherwise we never know what our day off is from week to week and can't plan our lives accordingly.LouBarlow wrote:People who are happy to see 1/6th of the workforce disappear, as long as they get every Saturday off, are the reason we are in this position right now. I don't think that we are selfish c***s.
For quite a while now the union and other full timers have ignored the rights of us part time reserves as its all about protecting their status quo. All union meetings held before our start time. The campaigns all about protecting the rights of the full timers.
I didn't think they were selfish c***s. It was just all about vested interests as it always is.
Well now maybe its a taste of your own medicine.

You make a great point. I spent fifteen years being bashed from pillar to post. Duty holders didn’t give a sh*t how stitched up I was. Now I’ve got a duty and I get no grief whatsoever; EVER.CHUCKYPIG wrote:There are quite a few of us reserves who are of course happy to work Monday to Friday because otherwise we never know what our day off is from week to week and can't plan our lives accordingly.LouBarlow wrote:People who are happy to see 1/6th of the workforce disappear, as long as they get every Saturday off, are the reason we are in this position right now. But it does mean that the remaining staff will have to pick up their workload , for no extra reward.
Too many people think ONLY of how THEY are affected and never consider others.

Okay at least we're getting somewhere.this battle is about our job being changed at the drop of a hat without any consultation.
That is exactly what this is about, not the changes themselves because let's be honest we've been predicting a 5 day service for long enough and to be honest it makes sense with a reducing indoor workloads (present circumstances excepted obviously).
The real issue is that the union has been frozen out of the process and that scares people understandably but if you were Rico would you deal with someone who is constantly on social media calling you greedy, accusing you of hiding and repeatedly referring to your nationality as if that's relevant.
Terry Pullinger doesn't like Rico Back, we get that but he has a professional obligation to keep his personal feelings to himself which he has continuously failed to do.
The reason the union has been sidelined is not all down to Rico Back although I don't doubt he's a hawk, the CWU top table if you like has also acted recklessly and needs to do some serious growing up.

Or it means there will be workload there to sustain your job.But it does mean that the remaining staff will have to pick up their workload.

Yes that is a good point. As stated a lot of people will greatly benefit working Monday to Friday. But it is a bit scary that this is being introduced at the drop of a hat "due to Coronavirus" when that doesn't smell right, I think they are just trying to shoe it in with Coronavirus as an excuse.

Does anyone honestly believe that, if ( when) RM do go to a 5 day delivery, that the non delivery day will remain as a Saturday?
After a short while, it will be moved from a Saturday to either a Monday or more likely a Tuesday.
I recall all the discussions when the company was on the verge of being privitised and most people agreed that if the USO was lost, Tuesday would be the non delivery day.
I haven't read the full thread on this, so apologies if it's already been mentioned.

In what way is the workload "time" and not "the amount of items"? Workloads are measured in MCs in the number of items. afaik each mail stream has a value of how long it takes to do x amount of mailLaggyBand wrote:

You are paid for the hours you work not for the amount of work you do within those hoursSpacePhoenix wrote:In what way is the workload "time" and not "the amount of items"? That's still not the workload which is the number of items. For each section they look at the amount of items they've got coming in. They times it by the value for how long it's supposed to take per so many items for that mail stream (just guessing at values here, say for small Tracked they might have a value of say 400 items per person per hour) and that gives them how many hours are required for that workload.A2B wrote:You are paid for the hours you work not for the amount of work you do within those hoursSpacePhoenix wrote:In what way is the workload "time" and not "the amount of items"? They then add up the number of hours required for the shift. In theory the number of hours for a shift (all non-management staff combined) should be around about or just a few more than the number of hours required.
Whether they actually get the number of hours required is another matter. The budget for each work area is in hours, for a given shift each work area will have a budget of x hours with the budget for all work areas added up gives the shift budget. Chances are that it's lower than the number of hours required
