this is more rm madness they are trying there luck this should not be happening full stopfb1969 wrote:While they may be saying that no mail would ever be in your car, would they tell this to every potential thief out there? Whoopee you have business cover so if there is an accident you will be covered, great. But how about returning to you car to find windows smashed as someone saw you getting out of it and going on delivery, so assumed there may be mail in the car while you were gone.
Absolute madness on so many levels, if the CWU have actually agreed to this they might as well give up on every issue they have with the company.

I'm guessing the person in their car would go straight home, driver takes everything back.gary1975 wrote:So is the walker going to take his 739s back to the officecitypostie wrote:We've been told if you pay for business cover they will reimburse it. To any of those thinking about using your car just ask yourself why Royal Mail isn't just hiring extra vans?
They're pretty cheap to hire in bulk, there's plenty of them lying around now we're in lockdown and you can take the mail out in the back of them.
Seems like a more sensible option so why are they asking members to use their own cars?

I know, and I’m not sorting it. It’s a forum where over the last week there have been hundreds of suggestions.viking1488 wrote:why this is not your problem its a rm problem let them sort this outHTPostman wrote:Is there no way of adapting our current bags so they can fit on a bike? I despair, I really do I can't believe I'm reading this, so there's fellow posties offering to use their own cars just to make it easier, it's up there with working for free etc, when's it going to sink in,it's not your problem to sort out let your boss do it,there's plenty of vans available for RM to hire if need be.

There may be posties who don't like the idea of having to work much later and/or use a van that's already been used. (Has it been decontaminated?).ted_e_bear wrote:I despair, I really do I can't believe I'm reading this, so there's fellow posties offering to use their own cars just to make it easier, it's up there with working for free etc, when's it going to sink in,it's not your problem to sort out let your boss do it,there's plenty of vans available for RM to hire if need be.
Using own car would solve these problems. Obviously it would have to be properly remunerated and properly insured.
Ordinarily I am against it, just as others are, but these are not ordinary times. It would be a temporary measure.

Easiest option is to leave a few bags of mail at a post office near to where a local postie lives ( maybe drop a trolley off to and keep it there for the duration?) and get them to just deliver letters locally, then arrange with the van driver to pick the pda up from the post office at x o clock.

A couple in our office used cars today (van-share duties). But it was only to transport them up to their first delivery point. No mail was transported using a car.

Firstly, if you are considering this contact your insurance company, add business insurance, for less than 1000 miles a year its normally free or a small fee to add this.
Secondly, have absolutely no mail in your private vehicle. Either follow the van out or meet the person at your first loop.
Thirdly, make sure you claim mileage. You will need to keep a record of what you've done and ask whoever inputs pay to input it for you

Agreed. No need to transport mail in own car. If this was to be implemented, however, I think it should be nationally recognised by the CWU and agreed by RM as a temporary measure in response to the crisis.
