The bumbling New Yorker who has 3 wives and cannot afford to live on £150,000 a year plus expenses nice house in the centre of London company car with police escort. Is telling me how I spend my free time with my family and I don't travel about the country telling us how great things are bull shiting us all with his oven ready deal. It is kind of funny how they waited till all the MP's went home after the recces of parliament on the 17th this now is not a democracy but a dictatorship!

We all know the reason the infections rates have jumped up. What did you think would happen when lockdown ended at the beginning of December? We've all seen people flock to shops just for xmas presents. Unfortunately people can't save themselves or others. Masks will decrease the amount of people infected regardless of you saying they don't work. So really imagine if people came out of lockdown and went xmas shopping without masks. What would of been the rate of infection?

The moment a vaccine was mentioned people just decided everything was ok and just went out in thousands for what? Primark pyjamas? Why can't people wait a bit longer and let the vaccine circulate? Fed up of people finding reasons for things failing when it is obvious why it is failing. Everyone just wants their freedom, just screw everyone who is at high risk and potientially die from covid. Selfish.

I don't think it's been established yet what affect the new strain has on the effectiveness of the current vaccines being developed or administered

In cases like this you have to default to what you know about general vaccine effectiveness and viral mutation.

In most cases it takes a significant mutation to alter the vaccine effectiveness, this seems to be a minor alteration in transmission which has been seen before in other countries.

I would be pretty shocked if this has taken them by surprise.

The reason why the infection rate has increased is because it is a seasonal and now endemic virus.
Old Boris is like King Canute thinking that he can stop the Viral tide but even more bizarrely people think that he could only if he locks down harder and longer.

All through the pandemic people like you have completely misunderstood what a lockdown is for.

It's to slow the spread not stop it, nobody is stupid enough to think you can stop a virus like covid19 dead in its tracks without a vaccine.

If more people had focused a bit harder on trying not to spread it instead of pretending they're epidemiogists or class warriors we might have slowed it even more.

What is the point in your input at all? You're a disbeliever, we get it. I've lost my mum already this year, I'm trying not to make it a "two for" with my dad.

Don't wear a mask, don't take the risk seriously. I really don't give a toss, just have the decency to stay the f**k away from those that do.

Boris can't control the virus. The government had their chance and completely blew it.

What was likely required was a good, effective, compulsory contact tracing and testing regime (which never even required an app) along with proper financial support for people isolating. This needed to be up and running for the end of the first lockdown at the very latest so the lockdown could be eased, and then individuals/families could be instructed to isolate and be tested as appropriate for 2 weeks with full financial support for their period of isolation. Quarantine (same period as self isolation) should also have been enforced on everyone arriving to the UK from any other country.

This is what happened in countries that maintained control of the spread.

Distancing and masks can only do so much. Full national lockdowns and the tier system are now pretty much ignored, and there is no enforcement or advice that the population as a whole feel is reasonable.

With 2 million cases in the UK confirmed and 67000 deaths and probably 10 to 15 million people who have had the virus, We need a new plan as lockdowns don't work the masks don't work hell 10 million people are not working. The Great Barrington Declaration is the only way forward now we need to protect the vulnerable and isolate the ill and pay them even if they are self employed full wage salary for the duration of illness. Invest in the NHS this virus is not that deadly look at the governments own figures 2 million positive cases and 67,000 deaths or 3.33% death rate, Not including 10 to 15 million actual cases in the UK if we had a really deadly virus which kills 20% or more of those who it infects we would be in big trouble if the NHS cannot cope now.

It's impossible to protect the vulnerable without isolating those with the virus. It will filter through to them regardless until we have enforced isolation for known infected and their recent contacts.

The virus may not be "that deadly" but it is still very debilitating in a large enough portion of cases, and it running amok would swamp the NHS to the point of it becoming more deadly.

Yes the NHS needs much more investment: no argument there, but it isn't coming right now as we have a government absolutely intent on outsourcing everything to private companies that don't have the ability to do the jobs they're being tasked with.

I've just had a look at that declaration you mention and I have to ask: how is that workable? Are you wanting the government to mandate people who have recovered work in nursing homes as opposed to continuing their regular job? How would they decide who does what? What measures would be put in place to ensure these people forced to undertake this work are actually suitable? How could we know that recoverees aren't spreading the virus still (immunity doesn't stop further infection, it just stops the resulting illness from fully developing)? What about vulnerable people that aren't in nursing homes? Who helps them and who polices those helpers? And finally, what heppens when a large proportion of non-vulnerable people in one area get infected at the same time? The hospitals won't cope and people who would be low risk with treatment become high risk as they can't access that treatment. Do we then send them to other areas to swamp those too?

The Great Barrington Declaration
.... has been universally debunked as nothing more than a theoretical think piece with almost no support in the wider scientific community.

And you genuinely think it's the way forward?

😂😂😂😂 :cuppa

You supported the Swedish Model.
Even the Swedish don't support the Swedish Model.

The nation has £2 trillion in debt increasing by £5 billion a week in furlough payments alone very soon we may not be able to borrow to get the PPE for the NHS or pay the NHS staff wages or buy the vaccines which the say will end this crisis. I did say people should self isolate and be paid properly till they are well. Councils are handing out the provision of food supplies we got one dropped at our house but manged to tell them they got the wrong address lot's of things can be done more efficiently with councils and food banks at the fore front test and trace is one. Immunity doesn't stop further infection well we are all doomed then because that is all what the vaccine is for!

Government debt doesn't work like that.

Many things could be done more efficiently, but I have to ask: what kind of efficiency are you after? If it's monetary efficiency you want then bear in mind monetary efficiency is the reason the NHS has been run down to the point of having no real spare capacity to cope with something like the pandemic we're experiencing.

"Immunity" from an infection doesn't stop someone getting that infection, or spreading that infection, at all. It stops further infection developing into a full blown illness. Immunity means your body has the ability to fight an infection off quickly. It means you don't notice the symptoms of infection because your body deals with it quickly enough. Essentially immune people will be like any other asymptomatic spreader, but spreading the virus to others for a shorter duration.
