Everyone’s circumstances are different. I have a plan to be out of here and retire at 45 before my body is broken like most of the people here working into their late 50s and 60s.

I can’t achieve that on my 25 hour contract but can when I’m putting the OT in.

As I say everyone is different but I’d rather do 50 hours a week (15 hrs indoors/35 outdoors) than 25 hours a week (2.5 hrs indoors/22.5 outdoors). At the end of the working day I’m gonna be tired regardless of if I’m outdoors for 6 hours or 4.5 hours. I might as well earn £500 instead of £250.

Correct RM don’t care about me, I won’t care about them in 10 years. Works both ways.

And yes I’m well aware this OT won’t be available for ever. Making hay while the sun shines etc.
But catching the virus could potentially give you serious respiratory damage ,making the rest of your life miserable.
Minimising working hours temporary would to my mind lessen the risk of catching COVID?

With the average of a postal worker being 48 I unfortunately for see many people having to quit their job for health reasons
Maybe, this is RM’s tactic to get the numbers down?

Royal Mail decisions on van sharing just when there is a massive surge of infection rate Clearly demonstrates negligence on safe working practice but because it’s your choice they would not be held responsible.

I just don’ t understand why RM would allow van sharing at this moment.
That’s why I wear PPE and socially distance in and out of work. It’s a risk but so is getting the bus to work, so is nipping to the shops, he’ll even stepping out the front door increases my risk.

At least I’m being paid very fairly for taking the risk.

Agree on your point about van sharing, surprised the union haven’t got this plastered all over the papers.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Packets have picked up this last week at our depot. Managers only want staff to leave the non-tracked stuff but take the packets. With 90% of the packets being Tracked items and the fact they are currently making up 2 full Yorkes, that would unfortunately mean that more loops of mail will need to be left behind.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Not awful you just dont make close contact with the person sitting next to you thats very easy much harder to control on public transport or in a pub or shop still its the RM so expect the workers to make any excuse not to work.

It's Amazon Prime Day this week so Amazon packets (normal, Tracked and SDs) will be a lot busier

Unfortunately we are key workers and have to go to work. Paramedics,police,binmen, council workers, rail workers ...etc are all van sharing There has been no evidence that there has been increased cases of covid 19 due to van share.
The CWU has not been very supportive during this crisis, particularly local reps . They have been almost completely silent for 6 months. The bottom line is that if we stop working or do our best to avoid working then ultimately Royal Mail will continue to lose even more money and guess what? That means job losses.
Covid 19 aint going away this year or next year. The world health organisation says its very unlikely that a cure will be found . Look at HIV.Nearly 40 years after that virus arrived and still no nearer to cure.
The way to deal with this virus and stay safe is follow guidelines.Wash hands,wear masks and limit contact .
I see the real reasons for CWU members opposing van shares and very few are on the side of health and safety.
Many of those that support CWU (or rather Terry Pullinger and Dave Wards suggestions as the CWU should be members decisions based on truth ) ,they are the same staff who have had the luxury of working by themselves for 6 months doing the same duty every day whilst the partner or other staff members are moved from one duty to another (often with vast workloads).
Thats why the majority are opposing van shares as they look at self interest rather than safety.
There are staff who are suffering mentally from not van sharing anymore. They cant cope with constant change. CWU should take that on board as they are meant to be a lead in "Mental Health".
Finally.. a sensible post. A majority of our office get a bus out to and back from walks every day, are crammed in like rats while sorting but now we're supposed to object to sitting next to the same person in a van with a mask on? If someone could explain how all of that is ok and why the union have been silent for 6months while we work in already unsafe conditions, with a legitimate reason please, I'd be happy to say no. Otherwise it's a massive yes from me as it's obviously safer and I'm sick of doing twice as much work as walkers who've been going home sometimes 2 hours earlier than me. Balls to the CWU, they've been absolutely useless through all of this.

Hence why Terry emphasised repeatedly that its voluntary and that the Union were NOT recommending it. Its the business that are trying to use it as a negotiating tool not the Union.

They've had 5-6 months to formulate a plan on how to deal with this time of year and yet van share is just dumped on us less than a week before they want to reintroduce it. No consultation with staff for ideas as usual, and I honestly haven't heard a single voice 'crying out' for it in my DO, contrary to what Sean Whoever he is suggests.

Absolutely spot on. Cannot believe people have actually jumped up straight away to dance to RM’s tune! There must be some extremely weak offices out there, god help you at the next revision!

Have a go at the driver , blame the walker , get a life some of you .i hear ppl moaning about conquer and divide tactics which have been used for years to weaken offices by management , yet were all turning on each other . The plans working children , the bosses love this .!
