Of course we are grateful for a job , but that does not mean we have to be beaten into the ground everyday with workloads that are impossible to complete ,and this constant hammering of parcels does get to you when you know you cant get it done in your allotted hours , especially with what is going on in the world right now.2yearpostie wrote:At least we have a job for the foreseeable, im sure plenty of people out would be grateful for that right now.

I would not expect anything to be announced before Christmas other than profit losses.
Royal Mail’s present working model no longer works!
COVID NOW, hitting Delivery Offices ,Mail Centers and with hardly any social distancing there are dire consequences with
lots of people told isolate by NHS COVID APP.
For starters - How about having a more safer working environment ,different start time- shift patterns, compulsory mask to be worn indoors and go back to individual delivery duties

Social distancing might be just about doable in DOs, but in MCs, no chance. The xmas casuals will probably be started within the next 7 days as a result of the lockdown and given how many xmas casuals RM are getting across the UK then that could well be 100+ per shift in larger MCs on the top of normal casuals/Angard and normal RM staff (duty+docket+SA)iHateD2Ds wrote:I would not expect anything to be announced before Christmas other than profit losses.

It's "doable" anywhere.Social distancing might be just about doable in DOs, but in MCs, no chance.
The impact that has on the workplace isn't your problem, staying safe is.

Having worked in both, Social Distancing in a mail centre is much easier than a DO. DOs are usually old, cramped and small; unless they are under threat of closure most MCs are large modern and spacious.Woody Guthrie wrote:It's "doable" anywhere.Social distancing might be just about doable in DOs, but in MCs, no chance.

Our DO has stairs and lifts and cramped parking, yet we have been able to set up 1 way corridors and alleys, and only 1 person is allowed in the lift. Leeds the MC I worked at had plenty of room to set up dedicated one way walkways 2m apart from each other, and plenty of safe exit points that they could even distance on leaving and entering. If we have 2 people working closer than 2m, and is unavoidable they should be wearing a mask, and hopefully thats the same in MCs.
It takes work and planning but MCs have far more space than even the largest DOs.

Can we drop the “can’t do won’t do attitude” that is so prevalent in the company?
There are endless measures that can be taken at a mail centre to increase safety and space. One example canopys and tents have just been erected in our mc car park for Xmas storage. Why was this not done from March to create space in the mc...they’re cheap/no one is hiring them for events....
3 night shift managers tested positive at Southampton mail centre when they have radios and mobiles to comunicate 10s of meters away from each other?
Why are 2 or 3 hundred people on one shift still taking breaks at the same time, why is an unventilated tv room still open
The list of possibilities can go on and on.....

Being a postman in the pandemic had the potential to be one of the safest occupations in the pandemic.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Having worked in both, Social Distancing in a mail centre is much easier than a DO. A skeleton crew could have been in an office at any one time. The uso would need to have been suspended, mail streamlined, shift patterns instigated, potentially deliveries at the crack of dawn and late at night (preferably vans not walking). It would have taken a monumental effort to do all of that....
Instead we have countless outbreaks in offices, several hundred posties currently infected, dozens of postman dead/suffering long term damage, postmen bringing back the virus to their families, many more ready to go into those stats over the next few weeks, offices closed, mail centres not functioning, and about to Chuck 30000 unmonitored temps into that mix...
Royal Mails response perfectly mirrors the haphazard, disjointed, national response. The Uk will exit the pandemic one of the worst performing for fatalities &GDP, ditto Royal Mail.

Absolutely correct .Our sorting frames been taped off but now people cram onto the allocated area side by side in a tighter space than usual. One culprit is the H and S guy .

Can't see us having sorting frames taped off for very long. We have to have a load of extra sorting frames to be able to cope in a normal year at Xmas. Only way around it would probably be to have extra frames in the mech area, using up the space the mech needs, with all absolutely all letters going manual (though you'd still have the capacity issues)elteleltel wrote:Absolutely correct .Our sorting frames been taped off but now people cram onto the allocated area side by side in a tighter space than usual. One culprit is the H and S guy .
