If she’s not in we P739 as normal. She can’t deny receiving it because the barcode is on her own phone, only her or someone at her address will have access to it.
A nightmare in the making I know when people lose their phone or break the screen or forget to charge it.

Tbh it’s not that different from football tickets now being scanned instead of having someone physically tear it for you.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I wouldn't be surprised to see RM have a massive push at some point to have 2D barcodes (or at least 1D barcodes) added to way more itemsHTPostman wrote:I wonder if we’ll see barcode scanning to replace signatures - so Becky orders her essential paddling pool from essentiallockdownitems.com and a special unique barcode is pinged to her phone/tablet. I have read somewhere that one of the couriers had developed or was developing their app to ask for a signature on the customer’s phone when they got the parcel.
This could be a checkout option when buying online with a small discount when accepting.
Doesn't sound too complicated.

Don't understand why some tracked items also require a signature whereas most of them don't.
Our specials should not change to a next day service. People pay extra to get these items delivered before a certain time and it prevents us delivering later in the day.
As for recorded letters I've heard that there's been a few complaints where postie's have signed for them and then just posted it through instead of leaving the item and waiting for the customer to answer the door. It's understandable of course given that it could blow away...

Our gaffer hasn't said anything. Im wary of posting genuine Specials through and signing for it myself. Too many untrustworthy customers!

Same here as per instructions, only items that won't fit through the letterbox require a knock on the door.Grumpyoldmailman wrote:postslippete wrote:As for recorded letters I've heard that there's been a few complaints where postie's have signed for them and then just posted it through instead of leaving the item and waiting for the customer to answer the door. That’s what we were told to do by lino.
The customer is still not signing for the item even if they are required to open the door because the item is too big

I suppose your taking out the option of a customer 'refusal' if you don't place it on the doorstep and check with the door opener the validity of the recipient... but weighing up the balance of scales between a 1 in 1,000 possible chance of 'incorrect addressee' v's the letter getting wet or blown away I'll favour the 'post it through the letterbox' option signed 'XP1' while we are going through these exceptional times.

I draw the line at specials but I assume many don't.Grumpyoldmailman wrote:postslippete wrote:As for recorded letters I've heard that there's been a few complaints where postie's have signed for them and then just posted it through instead of leaving the item and waiting for the customer to answer the door. So how do you deliver specials?Dannybuca wrote:I draw the line at specials but I assume many don't.Grumpyoldmailman wrote:postslippete wrote:As for recorded letters I've heard that there's been a few complaints where postie's have signed for them and then just posted it through instead of leaving the item and waiting for the customer to answer the door. It's not something done to save time it's how RM have told us to deliver during this period.

What I mean is I don't post specials without knowing for sure that someone is there to receive it, regardless of size. I follow the guidelines as if it were a large parcel but even if they don't come to the door and, for example, communicate through a window, I'm more than happy to XP1 it

For Special Delivery Guaranteed parcels, including letter formats
Scan the parcel as delivered and press continue but do not enter the customer’s name yet.
Leave the parcel on the doorstep, knock on the door and step back 2 metres
When the customer comes to the door tell them they have a parcel there and inform them that we will not be collecting the usual signature, but we will require the customer’s name and must witness the customer taking the parcel in.
Input the customer’s name as normal and press proceed. When the signature box appears, input “XP1” but do not press done until the customer picks up the parcel.
If the customer takes the parcel inside the Delivery Officer should press done.
If the Customer refuses to take the parcel inside, then the Delivery Officer should retrieve the parcel, update the PDA status to “Not Delivered - No Answer” and leave a “Something For You” card so that the parcel can be collected at a later point. Do not show the parcel as “Refused”.

By the way the same applies for all signature items, specials, tracked and recorded.
At no point has Royal Mail said it's okay to post any signed for item straight through the door.

Well that's the first i've heard of that, have you got a link so i can show my DOM as we are instructed to put everything through and only knock when the item is too large.Woody Guthrie wrote:By the way the same applies for all signature items, specials, tracked and recorded.

I also brought up that we could be delivering lots of cash as the government are sending cash to people who need it and can't leave the house via RM SD and he commented that there would be loads of false none receipt claims.
