It'll be interesting to see if the mech when it gets run on Sunday (with the normal Friday stuff + the normal Sunday stuff) whether it gets sequenced, or just walk sorted or just sent through as manual

can say that's up there with the best in terms of planning in our d/o, absolute chaos
some had 1 per duty packet runs, some had 1 per 2 duties, absolutely no planning went into this fiasco with there overtime ban, yet we can get it monday after the horse has bolted, a couple of hundred quid saving in overtime will now probably cost them £1000s over the next 4 days
we've gone from holding our own and in general clearing the office to what will be a manic week coming up overnight, honestly you can't write this stuff

We had cleared every day until today. After prepping the packets/parcels for the rounds it was obvious the only way to deliver was by doing the loops as normal because there where more packets in the frame today compared to letters on Monday. Most people only took 1 delivery out but most brought some of that back. So Monday as well as double mail there will be a mountain of packet and parcels from today.
No overtime is being paid next week so by Tuesday we will have joined all the other offices with a backlog. Ridiculous really for an office with no one on sick or isolating since about 4 weeks ago.
Whoever dreamt up this plan needs sacking. It will never work with 50% staff so I'm guessing they aren't actually bothered if it works or not.
Just to add we had more than Han 50% of staff because most refused to swop days off. Without the extra people in doing sorting etc. It would have been even worse

I had to tell little Johnny, who was waiting with bated breath for me to pop his Beano through his letterbox, "Sorry johnny, some guy in Switzerland says that I can't bring you your much anticipated Comic today because that would be classed as wilful delivery and a sackable offence, but if you are lucky you might get it on Monday if I don't have to cut off before I get to your house". Madness.

It kind of worked for me & partners duty as we had quite a lot of backlog building with 'untracked' parcels and packets so we managed to concentrate on clearing those today one in the van (large parcels) and the other with a trolley. However once we get back on track with the duty walks, it could leave us with spare capacity on Saturday and setup a bruising Monday with most likely a visit to every door with so much mail to deliver.

RM grossly underestimated the labour required clearing one tomato full of tiny eBay stuff.

What it boiled down to is everyone had a BIT of time spare after clearing their own job. Like 20% free at the end.

They wanted 50% they’ll probably get 80%.

We made the system look good today .... I hope Rico wasn't watching or we'll be going live with it ASAP.

All the usual Dickheads charging around like Billy Whizz on speed.

We'd had a brief from the unit rep specifically saying, "Goodwill had been withdrawn.... Work properly .... Take Breaks etc and DO NOT rush around Trying to make this system work". As always it fell on deaf ears , and the Usual Suspects were just concerned with carving the duty up so they could go home early.

We haven't had any of the Duty Changes Kick in so we had the Full Saturday Crew..... should be interesting to see what happens next Saturday when there's not as many in. Posties were coming back saying, "Well that wasn't too bad if that's how it's going to be". Until it was pointed out that next week they'll be delivering not only their own parcels, but also the parcels for the next duty (whose Postie is working Mon-Fri). That took the smile off their faces.

Later Finishers came back to all the Mech, IPS Yorks and Households sat there waiting for Monday. I mentioned to the DOM that I was surprised he hadn't asked the Early Finishers to start prepping it.

He said they'd already knocked off by the time it had arrived!

As we were still several hours before the official finish time most of us prepped Households and Mech for Monday (hopefully it'll save us an hour or so of what promises to be a busy day), I'm sure the "Early Birds" will probably kick off about their's not be prepped, or some such BS.

PT perspective here:

Frames were full from mail that hasn’t gone out during the week so it would’ve been impossible to put small parcels into the frame then bundle them up in order.

Either way I wasn’t prepping as it was all done by the duty holder who simply chucked them in any order into pouches based on loop. As a result I was taking out a bag with say 20 small parcels in, trying to figure out as I walked along what order they go in. I’m a reserve/spare so with some rounds (like the 2 rounds I did parcels for today) I don’t know them well enough so can’t just put them in mental order. Not so bad if it’s a straight up straight down street numbered 1 to 49 then 50 to 2. Very complicated when it’s a street with lots of little side streets and cul de sacs running off it. Lots of going to and forth, plus oversized packets to do too.

Saw 2 people coming back to the office at 10.30, talk about playing into Rico’s hands.

Lack of organisation (now there’s a surprise) with on 2 occasions me delivering next door to a puzzled postie who had also been sent to that street with a parcel!

Dread to think how I’d get on if I was sent to rounds I’d never ever done before.

Can it work? Yes; but it would need all mail to be cleared by Saturday leaving a clear frame. Would also be helpful for PTers who don’t get prep time if small parcels were bundled into order in the bags.

And the workload really needs looking at. It can’t be right that you have people going home on a flyer by midday even though there’s parcels, mail and D2D still not prepped because management darent confront them.

Agree completely. Im off Monday, my duty wont be covered, wasn't covered yesterday either so Tuesday I will have 4 days worth of mail. But sure Do my hours and the rest can go and f**k....

Same in our place mate. People gone by 1030, others struggling to get done for 330. And some brough stuff back. Usual favourites gone early and not asked to help out others, same boys and girls will have their Saturday off next week too.

Office was coping quite well........ until today! Loads of unfinished walks, packets everywhere. No overtime. I did my rural, got back about an hr earlier than would have done if I'd sorted and took the mail with me. Crazy. How to ruin a company . How they think the office will be cleared on 50% staff on a Saturday is beyond me. They've got no chance. 90 odd calls today and it took me 3hrs 10 mins once I'd driven out there. And they thought I could do the neighbouring walks packets too. No chance. Did an hrs worth of packets when I returned to office. Nobody as far as I'm aware, was allowed to go home early.
