i agree entirely ! we still have part timers coming in at stupid o clock ,not keeping the 2m and hiding around the corner so they can still share the van ! DEATHWISH or whatLouBarlow wrote:It is baffling to me why we cant move to delivering every other day (if we are granted the power to suspend the USO) as even Amazon now are taking a week to deliver packages. We don't have to be operating at our peak efficiency at this time - reduce the service, half the staffing and keep people safer. You could easily alternate rounds, so they only go out every other day. It would make the office emptier and more able to safely operate the two meter rule.

Maybe better to deliver everyday, but instead, half of Posties work 3 days a week, the other half work the other 3 days. Then you can better keep your distance when there is only half the workforce in the depot on any given day.LouBarlow wrote:It is baffling to me why we cant move to delivering every other day (if we are granted the power to suspend the USO) as even Amazon now are taking a week to deliver packages. Problem is there will be double post/parcels to go out.

That's what my plan was (perhaps I didn't explain it properly). Two days worth of mail isn't really a big deal at the moment, though parcels would be more of an issue.norris9 wrote:Maybe better to deliver everyday, but instead, half of Posties work 3 days a week, the other half work the other 3 days. I suggested that to my manager, they said can't do it, not allowed. It would also save money, if we were all on 3 day week on the understanding that we clear our duty every other day for no overtime we couldn't argue at that. 50% less people in office every morning. Makes sense to me.LouBarlow wrote:It is baffling to me why we cant move to delivering every other day (if we are granted the power to suspend the USO) as even Amazon now are taking a week to deliver packages. Do you mean the BBC said Spanish postal workers, or those in this country?baldrick wrote:The 7pm BBC News said that 'non-essential' workers including postal workers will be told to stay away from work from tomorrow for two weeks.Surfpostie wrote:Just heard on BBC news that postal workers are being advised to stop working for 2 weeks. I think a 3 or 4 day week in rotation would work, but whether all the mail and packets would get delivered is another thing. Managers were asking staff if anyone was prepared to work from 2.30pm onwards and surprisingly, there wasn't many volunteers. A few guys who regularly do docket were picking up an odd loop here and there, but the office just isn't getting cleared everyday as you might expect.
I don't agree with taking two days worth of mail/packets and in the long run Royal Mail may see this as the way forward to getting rid of the USO if suspended.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Has he/she just done this off their own back? Seems a big decision to make if not an instruction from the head honchos. I cant see it being made policy for every office though, as a lot of places might only have few people off sick and will want to try and carry on regardless, ignoring how dangerous that is for staff.CRIBMAD wrote:BOOM !! Don't think his Dom will have a job long if they've took that decision!

Yeah, not looking good in Spain as the deaths there mount up.Surfpostie wrote:Just heard on BBC news that postal workers are being advised to stop working for 2 weeks. As well as other occupation ie construction.
And look at the United Kingdom racing up the charts. 1,415 deaths so far.

Post offices are still open, and postal workers still working, but only for essential services.

Cheers for clarification. I keep hearing them say on the BBC it includes postal workers. They need to be more specific if this is the case.Williaal2 wrote:Some clarificationRen Hoëk wrote:Just said it again on BBC news. The health service in some Spanish cities and provinces is unable to cope at the moment. Hence the further, temporary restrictions.
That is nowhere near the case here, and I expect other businesses/shops will be told to close before us. Expect Royal Mail to be one of the last to go if it ever comes to that
