I am horrified by the sheer lack of care given by the union and will be withdrawing from paying more fees from tomorrow.
I have been a postman long enough to realise the constant demise of the job and mostly it’s because of the completely incompetent area reps in our office.
It feels as though they are kept quiet by the management .

Our personal safety in a job is on the line and I am sick of dreading going to work each night knowing full well nothing will have changed.

Sad state of affairs it really is

If one thing comes out of this it's that the current structure of the union is unfit for purpose and the power needs to go back to the unit reps and the staff on the floor, they should be supporting us and they've failed to step up, when this is all over it's time for change.
Opportunists, I’m afraid. They barrelled in with the ludicrous “fourth emergency service” s**t as an olive branch to Rico without taking into consideration the health or safety of their members. In the event I survive this pandemic, I’m inclined to resign my membership if the leadership fails to do the right thing and stand down.
They've apparently done all this:
The CWU called for social distancing - and we’ve seen that implemented across the UK
- Not according to these boards.....
The CWU called for extra PPE - and RM have bought 2 million pairs of gloves and 200,000 sanitizers
- Not seen any.........
The CWU demanded an end to shared vans - RM have banned this
- Again, not fully implemented......
The CWU today called for an end to D2D during this period - RM have agreed that it will only be delivered if you have other mail for the address.
- It's not just the delivery of them outside you clowns, it's the unnecessary time spent indoors prepping them when all the other control measures are being implemented half - heartedly or not at all.

Both RM and CWU have been epic fails in this crisis........

Sadly all true and predictable, lets face it nothing will happen as it never has done since i have been with RM over 25 years now. The union will come out of this crisis badly damaged and maybe not even survive as a union once this is all over. I for one have lost faith in them and i certainly dont feel like i am being supported at all.
The union and top brass of RM are all sitting in there ivory towers miles away from all the s**t we are having to face, and all we get is another union update where in reality not lot has changed ,and sadly never will. If they were serious and followed the government guide lines most offices would be closed down.

CWU have been a complete joke over this. Last week they said about getting the correct PPE in offices and people replied saying nothing was there. This week the same thing has happened yet they release a statement saying they have saved the day - and list all the things that they got RM to do, which RM simply have not done. And as for the laughable agreement from RM about D2D, that just misses the point altogether.

Beyond a joke to be honest, they've gone down the route of style over substance - make it sound good to hide the fact it is worthless.

Update dug out of the FB page: next week RM have won the contract to deliver 5.7m letters to over 70s from NHS. Other news imminent.

The Union has put us in the front line by claiming we are the 4th emergency service and that we are essential workers!!!

Unfortunately once the union publicly said we can be the 4th emergency service they screwed themselves and us, they would look the biggest idiots going now if they decided to call us all out after making such a rash and massive statement like that. There got nowhere to go now and RM know it , what a bunch of amateurs , i mean you think they would have learned there lesson after the first ballot pole was messed up, but not this lot there really are hopeless.

The Union offered to be the 4th emergency service to get the public onside and gain Brownie points so joe public would support them when we go on strike!

That' wrong, the leadership volunteered our services without asking us our opinions on it, offering our service to be used as a potential social care agency when none of us are trained in any aspects of that line of work was beyond foolish, we're not social workers or community nurses or home helps, offering us up to do such work was ridiculous and a kneejerk reaction from someone you'd expect would know better.

I think if we're honest it was more a distraction technique than anything else.

The first ballot failed on a self inflicted technicallity.
The second ballot failed due to bad luck/timing.
They threw the 4th emergency thing out there hoping to grab the moral high ground knowing that RM couldn't/wouldn't accept it.

What I think they failed to understand was that after drumming it into members for months how the business was trying to screw us over we were hardly likely to trust them enough to put us front and centre as an emergency service in a pandemic.

Most of us would happily volunteer but not wearing the badge of an employer trying to destroy our terms and conditions.

Some of the union's errors of judgement lately have been schoolboy stuff.

But the fact is they said it , and with hour health and safety being compromised they have backed themselves into a corner as far as calling us all out until our conditions improve, because they have already volunteered us without thinking . Jeez you couldn't make it up.
