Royal Mail : We have now exhausted all our supplier's stocks of wipes : Disposable gloves are available to order : Update 23 March

Mark_F wrote:Might be a strange thought, but it may be an idea if they didn't focus on hand sanitiser so much (by all means get it for us), but we could be supplied soap and a big bottle of water instead (which could be easier to source, would be more effective, and probably safer given what hand sanitiser does to your skin when you overuse).

We still need disninfectant wipes ASAP, and masks would be helpful if they become possible to obtain.
I've been thinking similar Mark. They say soap and water is more effective than hand sanitiser. The only issue is in the dispensing of them. The soap would be fine, but how would you effectively dispense the water with soap covered hands? Foot pump? You do get hand pumps that fit onto the gallon size water bottles, but again, would this be practical?
The only other way I could see it working would be to have two containers that you could dispense the water into. One for your soapy wash, and the other to rinse.
For those on delivery, hand sanitiser would still be the most convenient solution.

Q. Why don’t we have hand sanitiser?

A. The hand soap that we provide is effective for hand washing and good hand hygiene. It is also possible to order sanitiser or gel. However, there are long lead times for these products. We are trying to get it. But, so is everyone else.

Q. Do we have enough soap?

A. Yes. We have enough soap. If you need more soap, please speak to your manager, who can contact the Property & Facilities Solutions(PFS) helpdesk. It will coordinate a replenishment service via the local cleaning team.

Been using a mixture of SHAMPOO AND WATER in an empty bottle
Shampoo is as effective as soap at destroying the viruses protective shell and thus rendering the virus uneffective.

Royal Mail ie Rico Back needs to be shamed and held accountable for this lack of managment and leadership.

Ill be working until saturday. Then im off.

Do we have enough soap?
Yes. We have enough soap. If you need more soap, please speak to your manager, who can contact the PFS Helpdesk.

It will coordinate a replenishment service via the local Cleaning Team. When we are cleaning items in Royal Mail (non-health care setting) do we need to use a product that contains 70% Alcohol?

Our suppliers have confirmed that our cleaning products are suitably effective for cleaning in a non-healthcare setting as per the guidance issued by PHE. Where there has been a confirmed case, then a viricidal product is used to disinfect touch points and potentially contaminated surfaces.

Our DOM put his hand in his pocket and purchased gloves, sanitiser and wipes for the office. He had to do it himself because there was nothing coming from higher up. I know we slate management but he cared enough about us to go and pay for the stuff himself. There are some decent ones out there.

Turned out the half dozen bottles we had weren't actually purchased by RM they were actually supplied by a Lineo. So when are RM stepping up and getting their supplies delivered to the offices or are there none and it was soundbite?

Lets not drag ourselves down in negativity.....ok circumstances are far from ideal but...
our office has had gloves these past 2 weeks - despite trying to encourage colleagues at team meeting many choose not to wear them! In the past 2 weeks more have chosen to but still many do not. I personally have forgotten to replenish stock before going out on delivery and have run out...my fault not management…
but be aware...they are not designed for our work so will puncture split on the job... you need 2-4 pairs a day.

But we also have a job to go to...we are not confined to our homes...we can be sensible and fulfil our role with care keeping our families financially safe and secure even if we end up resorting to self isolation because we experience symptoms ! We still get paid unlike 000's that need government aid.
Many of our friends and family do not have the luxury of such security and this might just be the beginning of their troubles as they ultimately face financial hardship and unemployment be they employees of struggling companies or self employed people with no fall back or government aid...we have yet to witness this ultimate scenario which will also require our help and compassion!

So not wishing to lecture on and on....please think fellow colleagues before sprouting your negativity....no we don't have this and that, but neither do the NHS which are far more in need...support each other on how we can minimise risk because none of us can eradicate it, even with the right equipment.
We are in this together as a nation and as an army of posties (albeit depleted) we can make a difference if only by projecting a positive attitude in our communities, helping where we can confident that our families our provided for in the foreseeable future.

Take care all and work safely supporting your colleagues as best you can.
