Coronavirus and sick pay.

Post by norris9 »

I am not sure how it all works, but I don't get why for 1 whole year you don't get sick pay. Maybe it's common, but I've never had this with any other job I have done.

I would just be entitled to statutory sick pay if I went off sick with coronavirus, which is like £98 a week. If I felt like I just had a cold I probably wouldn't bother going to a doctors to get them to check for coronavirus - I'd just work as I need to get my full pay.

Everything is contractual thing is as time goes by they get watered down by people who do not fight for the rights that were earned by people who sacrificed themselves and their pay for others only for others to squander it and spaf it up a wall.

Universal Credit don't bother claiming it you will be dead before you get it. But Boris don't care as he has Donald Trumps hair and in the era of despair he don't care!

Coronavirus and sick pay.

I was sick over Christmas period (testicular cancer), doctor, consultant, operation all within two weeks ( good old NHS). When I returned to work after 4 weeks, I had my return to work interview. I asked the manager if I would get a stage warning for this sickness and in future as I have to have chemo, he said no "I will not issue stage warnings for cancer".

Of course they will. You get staged even if you have cancer.
No you don't.
Cancer from the point of diagnosis is treated as a disability under the Equality Act and exempt from the attendance procedure.
You could only get staged if your rep was woefully incompetent or the absence wasn't linked to the cancer.

Some years back advice was issued that absences due to swine flu shouldn't to be counted under the attendance procedure.
The key point of this is 'from the point of diagnosis'. Very rare for cancer to be diagnosed the first time someone is off sick. If they are absent because of the symptoms before hand, then it still counts under the attendance procedure.

I unfortunately had Swine Flu, ended up with an infection on one of my lungs. Once I had recovered and returned to work I was issued with a Stage. So I think it depends on how much of an arsehole the manager is.

The UK is 'very close' to forcing seven-day self-isolation upon anyone with 'even minor respiratory tract infections or a fever'

England's chief medical officer Chris Whitty says the UK will reach that stage 'probably within the next 10-14 days'
This is a significant development.

The stats emerging from italy, are quite stark. A fatality rate of around 5%. And a hospitilasation rate of around 50%.

Seasonal flu, this is not. We're a couple of weeks behind Italy, in terms of the epidemic in the UK.

Just on the news that Italy is going to be on shutdown. All schools etc closed and their health service is on the verge of a meltdown.

That hospitalisation rate seems wildly too high.

This just suggests that they are only testing people with severe symptoms. There may be another 100,000 cases where people have mild, flu-like symptoms and simply aren't being tested for this virus.

What it actually means is that they've been isolating the early cases in hospital whether they needed hospital care or not.

That percentage will decrease as the virus spreads and people are told to self isolate at home.
