A lot of postmen I have talked to in our delivery office have stated that they are against van share but not because of Covid and all the risks that come with it. The reason they are against it is because them finishing two hours before their scheduled time will come to a end.

They won’t implement it as it means they will be responsible when there’s a big outbreak and loads go off sick. Making it voluntary means the worker is responsible. Say NO!

Walk out to a duty then or even stay at home if your so concerned about contact. You dont want that tho do you? Means most of you have to give up the easy duties they been hiding behind for 6 months. Jobs are going if people dont work. Need to carry on as covid aint going anywhere

Okay so the government's idea of correctly done is...As a Health and Safety rep myself i do not see any reason for not van sharing ,if correctly done.
Are you as a Health and Safety rep going to ensure that it's done correctly across the entire office every day?3.3 Social distancing in vehicles
Objective: To maintain social distancing wherever possible between individuals when in vehicles:
avoid multiple occupancy vehicles where safe to do so
vehicles should not be shared if possible
if it is not possible to maintain social distancing guidelines inside vehicles (2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable), consider additional safety measures
Steps that will usually be needed:
Keeping the number of people in the vehicle to a minimum and as distanced within the vehicle space as possible.
Devising mitigation measures where workers cannot maintain social distancing guidelines to minimise the risk of transmission, including:
– clear signage to outline social distancing measures in place
– single person or contactless refuelling where possible
– using physical screening, provided this does not compromise safety, for example, through reducing visibility
– sitting side-by-side not face-to-face and increasing ventilation where possible.
Using a fixed pairing system if workers have to be in close proximity, for example in a vehicle.
Making sure vehicles are well-ventilated to increase the flow of air, for example, by opening a window.
Ensure regular cleaning of vehicles, in particular between different users.
If you can't guarantee that and I mean guarantee you should not as a Health and Safety rep be even considering supporting it.

Health and safety dont make me laugh the only thing most posties are bothered about is getting finished asap have you seen the state of the vans they dont get like that because of safe driving the only reason for not van sharing is selfish reasons always has been.

It is only Wednesday.
They still have 3 days to admit someone "misspoke."
It is a stupid idea. Someone has to own it.

Well it's been lovely having the van to myself. Having my break whenever I wanted. Being able to eat as much garlic as I felt like the night before but I agree with RM, as do a lot of my collegues, it's about time we got back to normal especially with xmas round the corner
I feel like some of you want RM to go bust???!!!??
Of course covid cases were going to go up it's a virus and we're heading to winter when does every other virus strike! Plus with all the regular colds going about that have similar symptoms to covid obviously more people are going to get tested and so more tests equals more known cases
It would be lovely if we could all have a van each all the time but it's obviously not cost effective or they'd of done that by now plus where would they put them all?
Also I don't get why we can't share a van with the person we've been working next to all morning but it's ok to get in a taxi with a driver you know nothing about who's had god knows how many passengers before you who have handled the seat belts and handles etc that you've obviously also come into contact with

Too right. I much prefer being in a van on my own and therefore being able to do the walk on my own.2yearpostie wrote:I think the most intested parties would be the ones who would have to work in the dark otherwise.
But I am one of the newbies who is forced into doing late starts and come the clocks going back will have to work in the dark.
And so I'd rather van share than work in the dark.
However if I was higher in seniority and therefore in the 90% of people who won't have to work in the dark in our DO then I would rather not van share.

Except chickenpox (varicella). Oh, and there's Rubella (German measles). Wait, there's also Hepatitis A that strikes anytime of the year, including summer. There's even been cases in the past of Whooping cough (pertussis) flaring up in late spring.Jen1 wrote:we're heading to winter when does every other virus strike!

Cant believe you thought that observation was a good idea to include in a post championing relaxing the restrictions.

From yesterday:
The south of England is doing okay but the north of the United Kingdom is seeing sharp increases in coronavirus cases.
This means that posties in the south should head up north and work in the delivery offices there, while the posties in the north should stay home, Netflix and chill.
