ABUSIVE SMILIES
I am new to Royal Mail Chat.
I just went through a list of rules for users to abide by. I am sure there was something about not posting abusive messages.
What struck me immediately were the animated smilies when writing a post. In particular, the faces of three politicians each being punched. The face disappears then the words "f**k OFF" in 'bloody' red letters appear where the face was. If this is not abusive and shocking, I don't know what is.
Do your own rules apply to yourself? Surely you should remove these. It is disgraceful.

Re: ABUSIVE SMILIES
In my opinion the smilies in themselves are not abusive in the context they are intended to be used. They are meant to be a little joke about 3 politicians who are privatising Royal Mail.
To be abusive they would have to be used in a confrontational context, ie if you are having a discussion with someone and respond to one of their points with an expletive, as that would be both personal and abusive it would be breaking the rules.
Also to be fair we are a generally a board for people of a mature nature and hopefully most of our members can accept the difference between a bit of jocularity and personal abuse. The board is also a reflection of the mostly masculine nature of our workplace where swear words are common if not appreciated. We also have to keep a balance between letting people use abusive language and expletives as and when they want, or banning anyone who even calls someone a relatively innocuous name. Some colourful language is permissible on RMC to allow people to vent frustration as long as it does not break the rule of being "personally abusive".
If you look round the forums we have had this discussion before and no doubt we will have it again, however, I hope I have explained the reasons behind these particular smilies.
Enjoy yourself and welcome. Oh an aside could you possible select the correct group for yourself as not sure if you are a Royal Mail employee or customer, its not important but it does help us put your posts into context and helps when responding to them.

Re: ABUSIVE SMILIES
Those Smilies have been on this site as long as I've been posting on here, which is a few years and it has'nt bothered me. Perhaps if you are so offended you should either grow a pair or go elsewhere
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
