matthewbutler wrote:What's an SPDO? Sub (?) delivery office? The context was if it didn't have pdas then the DO may have scanned a recorded as delivered. It's not in the glossary...
The actual meaning I think is Sub Payment Delivery Office - what they are in the real world are very small delivery offices based at the back of Post Offices and in Sheds etc - sometimes as small as 1 or 2 posties. Its not unusual for them not to have PDAs and do everything on paper - it is then scanned in by the parent DO.

Yes, they are very small delivery offices based at the back of Post Offices and in Sheds etc - sometimes as small as 1 or 2 posties and it's not unusual for them not to have PDAs and do everything on paper, but SPDO stands for SCALE Payment Delivery Offices, not Sub ... ... ...
Often tracked items etc. are scanned as delivered from the SPDO before they leave the town Delivery Office !
Many small Post Offices are still SPSOs - Scale Payment Sub Offices.

Scale
I remember now, I did know but had forgotten right popping over to the glossary to sort out my glaring error.

Where does the 'Scale Payment' bit come from?Lounge Lizard wrote:Yes, they are very small delivery offices based at the back of Post Offices and in Sheds etc - sometimes as small as 1 or 2 posties and it's not unusual for them not to have PDAs and do everything on paper, but SPDO stands for SCALE Payment Delivery Offices, not Sub ... ... ...

Drive around the lovely countryside you are interested in and see if any RM vans are parked in the Sub Post Office back garden.
Be quick though - by the time you get a transfer, the SPDO will have closed and you will be working from the Mail Centre 20 miles away.

Re: SPDO
One of our SPDO's has a vacancy, apparently a bloke came in yesterday handed a letter in at the gate saying 'tell the manager he can stick the job up his arse'
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

Payment to the Sub Postmaster is on a scale relating to something or other.matthewbutler wrote:Where does the 'Scale Payment' bit come from?Lounge Lizard wrote:Yes, they are very small delivery offices based at the back of Post Offices and in Sheds etc - sometimes as small as 1 or 2 posties and it's not unusual for them not to have PDAs and do everything on paper, but SPDO stands for SCALE Payment Delivery Offices, not Sub ... ... ...

There are still hundreds of SPDOs and I've got a list, so give me your postcode area and I'll let you know all near you.
