ADVERTS

Post by SPECIALTRACKED »

This site is impossible to use, whole adverts taking up full screen and I can’t get them off unless I turn phone into landscape mode, I’m on safari if that’s any reason?

Safari on iPhone can sometimes struggle to render "sticky" or "overlay" ads correctly if the site hasn't been optimised for the specific portrait dimensions of your phone.

Here are a few quick ways to get around it:

1. Use "Reader Mode"
This is the fastest way to strip away clutter.

Tap the "AA" (or the document icon) in the Safari address bar.

Select Show Reader.

2. Request the Desktop Website
If the mobile version is broken, the desktop version often behaves better.

Tap the "AA" in the address bar.

Tap Request Desktop Website.

The page will reload in a "zoomed out" view. The ads should shrink to their intended size, making it easier to find the "X" to close them.

3. Clear Safari’s "Gunk"
Sometimes a glitchy ad gets stuck in your cache.

Go to Settings > Safari.

Tap Clear History and Website Data.

Close Safari completely and try the Royal Mail link again.

4. Enable Built-in Protections
Ensure Safari isn't letting more through than it should:

Go to Settings > Safari.

Ensure Block Pop-ups is toggled ON.

Ensure Prevent Cross-Site Tracking is toggled ON.

GOOGLE:

We recently identified an issue where the 'close' button on anchor ads was not visible to some users on iOS mobile devices. This caused ads to occupy the full height of the screen without a clear way for users to dismiss them.

We've now fixed the issue. As of 18 February 2026, the fix is being deployed globally.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
