according to Martin Walsh there is to be new opportunities for new ''innovative'' shift patterns. we had these from the 2010 'deal of the century. our shift patterns were...:- work 3 weeks on and a week off. and also 9 day fortnights. from our office point of view they were the best thing to come out of that deal. a few of my mates and i were on the '3 over 4'. you could work it so you had your week off to coincide with your annual leave. so you could have had a 3 week break, back to work for 3 weeks, a fortnight off, back to work for 3 weeks, another fortnight off, then either another 3 week break or a couple more fortnight breaks... didn't matter if you used up your 6 weeks annual leave in those few months, because you knew you had your week off after every 3 week work stint. it was brilliant. but we had them taken off us cos management claimed the shifts were too difficult to cover or a logistical nightmare and threatened there would be 9 redundancies if we persisted on keeping them. as i have said before its still an 'open wound in our office'. we will see if we have the same chance again but i very much doubt it. it doesn't suit them. :evil/mad

Perhaps their removal was the result of a 'local solution'?

I know there's been a huge push in my office since 2010 to get everyone on 5 day rotating, including deliberate misinformation about the legality of working days off if on a 'Wallington' (loads of people fell for that and swapped to 5 days rotating . . .).

I think even the mere promise of Mon-Fri working will get a lot more people to go to 5 days a week rather than stay on Wallingtons. I suspect they'll end up beinmg shafted if they do though and will end up working most Saturdays and some Sundays with perhaps two consecutive days off in the week . . .

They've started asking for volunteers for the Sunday work in my office already and are pushing the idea of signing up for it on scheduled attendance. Will be interesting to see how many people sign up. The sweetener is it job and knock, 6 hours guaranteed even if you only work 2!

I won't personally find out because I won't be doing any Sundays but will be interested to hear what people who do it say

I’m pretty sure that the people that sign up for Sunday working with SA are going to be,by & large,the office overtime kings. In my experience job & knock has never really gone away for these individuals. Not a criticism btw,just an observation- I have absolutely no issue with working my full hours...

If you work Sunday does that mean you will have to have a day off in the week or will people be working 7 days/week?
