My walk is being absorbed, do I have right to pick another

Post by moonjaguar »

4 walks today were lapsed, with no notice, and two are to be absorbed and two us made to cover. Our revision wasn't long ago-I wouldn't have picked it if I'd known that. I presume I have to suck it up or is there anything I can do? Our manager is off sick and the cover manager had no idea and our union rep is equally clueless.

We don't know yet if soon anyone will have their own walk/duty. One thing that I know has been mentioned is managers allocating duties/walks each day

Heard same thing, aiming to lose 10 to 12 duties in our D/O, managers decide who does what duty, splitting up pairings to speed up old posties. Non drivers being put on hct duties near office, i shall be putting in a grievance if all this happens - may claim that 'ageism' is being used, illegal R.M

This is meant to be happening to us in January. Several walks each division being lapsed each day and then the bit you absorb will be permanently added to your walk.

It had better be fairly divided because some walks are already much longer than others so it can’t be a case of for example, everyone gaining an extra 100 drops.

Why are you being snarky? Yes it is one of the reasons we are striking. At my office it keeps being mentioned in passing that walks are going to disappear but no word on which walks or how it is going to be balanced when walks are already unequal.

Who's making these decisions as to which duties are going then, is there any meaningful planning whatsoever, has anyone actually got time to absorb the extra work?

Further to my above post this has been mentioned a few times now on here, seems like we're heading for the shittest laziest revisions possible, no thought whatsoever.

You would have thought that lapsing vacant walks would make more sense - if they really are intent on doing this across the board - but when did they ever do anything the logical way?

If I do my walk on my own it takes me just over time. So the addition of permanent absorption would mean overtime every day if walks are then split so you are working on your own all the time. Can’t see how that makes financial sense but hey ho.

It's going to partly be determined by how many hours the COMS have been ordered by their boss to remove from the office

Who cares , let Royal Mail do what they want , the union are not engaging over revisions. Moving people around onto different duties will just lead to less productivity, that’s fine by me . Do as you are instructed, start on time, take your breaks and finish on time and have a stress free day.

Start on time, take your breaks and finish on time , do as instructed by your employer, don’t stress yourself over it , the union are not sanctioning any of this so when if fails every day , it’s on Royal Mail .

Have just found out that each walk is being given the same amount of absorption, so no attempt is being made to balance walks. I will therefore have to either cut off each day or work over- which I am fine with as long as I will be paid.
