Breaks

Post by postie2007 »

Hi all
We have had an office revision is there a national agreement regarding taking your break at the end of your duty back at the office, so that you can make sure collected mail is back in the office ready to meet the pipeline times on a Saturday.

Duty start time 0700
Duty finish time 1415
Return to the office 1355
I hope that makes sense

TIA

by law you cannot work 6hrs continuous (i think) without a break (20mins)
our union also says you must take at least 20 mins within the shift and depending on your break allowance that day and the rest can be taken at the back end
but if you choose to take the full break within the shift and return to sign out at 14-15 nobody can stop you

Your duty span is 7.15hours therefore you are entitled to a 40 minute break.
If its agreed to take full break at end of shift , finish time is 13:35.

“Workers have the right to one uninterrupted 20 minute rest break during their working day, if they work more than 6 hours a day. This could be a tea or lunch break.”

It says workers have right to break granted but there have been occasions where i have personally agreed with manager to take full break at end of shift. I was not arrested 😃

I usually however take my full break. Always make sure you take break

This is what is killing us!

You get back early, scan out, go home.

Computer says x is finishing early, next revision add more work and so it goes.

:arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

This is 2021 people, wake up, going home early should no longer be an option.

If you have Items that are due to connect with the M C Service , you should be scheduled back before the service is due to dept
If you think you are going to miss the M C service inform the manager before you go out

Exactly this. How many people will want to take 20 mins at the end of duty if and when RM link pay to scanning out.

this may be acceptable where you need a 1 off dart home for an appointment but job & knock is finished (unless ghosting) :arrrghhh
i'm still bemused at the amount of workers who start early for free then whine when it's a lapsing day or told to prep d2d if back early,
we are our own worst enemies at times

Agreed, but the OP question was is there an agreement to take break at the end of duty to ensure the delivery connect
times - the answer is no, a break is for you to take a break, not to facilitate a revision that doesn't enable the connection.

The working time directive actually states that your manager can tell you when to take your break.
The timing of an office's break should be determined by the office as part of the revision process.
The timing of your break isn't and never has been a matter of individual choice.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Isn't there a Union agreement whereby if working full-time hours the 40 min break could be split, allowing 20mins to be taken either at the beginning or end of the shift?
