Joint message from Achim Dunnwald and Terry Pullinger
Dear colleagues
Improving quality, managing our costs, and delivering our national agreements
After many months of lockdowns and COVID restrictions, the economy is starting to open up. Whilst it is difficult to predict exactly what the next few months will look like, this change in behaviour is leading to some changes in the volumes we handle. We need to make sure that we continue to build and maintain great quality of service, whilst adapting quickly to changes in volumes to control costs.
We are asking for both Managers and CWU Reps to work together to manage this situation and make the necessary adjustments according to traffic trends, including a reduction of variable cost, such as Agency and ad-hoc overtime.
We are aware that there is some confusion and rumours circulating which suggest that other means of controlling costs – such as a recruitment freeze or removing all Scheduled Attendance for example – are being planned or encouraged. We want to be clear:
• Any document that has not been agreed jointly by National, Divisional or Regional management and CWU, has no status.
• Quality of Service and moving our progressive programme forward in line with our agreements i.e. revision activity etc., are our priorities.
• All national agreements must be worked too.
• As our joint statement on resourcing set out yesterday, there is no blockage on recruitment of full-time or part-time posts in all functions.
Our agreements have set us on a new positive path of ambition, growth, culture, reinventing Royal Mail including Parcelforce, for the next generation, bring on the next generation of postal workers and professional and fair resourcing and policy approaches. Everyone is working hard to make sure this happens.
Of course we must jointly manage daily operational challenges and productivity as we go, but it is essential that we keep our eye on the prize. Management and CWU relationships are absolutely key at all levels. So please work together, discuss all matters in the context of our realities and our agreements and find joint solutions.
Thank you to you all for the amazing work you are doing.
Achim Dünnwald
Chief Operating Officer
Terry Pullinger
Deputy Secretary General (Postal)

Terry does realise doesn't he that the biggest obstacle faced by the next generation of postal workers is the amount of SA held by full time staff.
If he genuinely believes in the 35 hour week then nobody should be contracted to work over their full time hours.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

LTB 253/21 – Joint Note to all Operational Managers and CWU Representatives
No. 253/21
18th June 2021
Dear Colleagues,
Joint Note to all Operational Managers and CWU Representatives
Following feedback from the field yesterday that related to what appeared to be a diktat to cut costs and Scheduled Attendance, I have been involved in dialogue this morning with Achim Dunnwald, the Chief Operating Officer of Royal Mail Group aimed at providing full clarity to the situation.
In order to ensure that momentum is not lost in the implementation of the current Pathway to Change realignment and revision activity and that this continues in a manner that reflects our mutual interest agenda, the attached joint clarification has been reached between us both.
Branches and Representatives will note that complete clarity is provided in relation to any additional paperwork that may be in circulation in that “Any document that has not been agreed jointly by National, Divisional or Regional management and CWU, has no status”.
The situation should now be crystal clear to all operational managers and representatives and ensure that the great progress that has been in place since the Pathway to Change Agreement ratified earlier this year now continues.
I would be grateful if this LTB and associated documentation can be given the widest possible circulation.
Any enquiries in relation to the content of this LTB should be addressed to the DGS(P) Department.
Yours sincerely,
Terry Pullinger
Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
