This is currently over £5.20 per hour for Sunday working which makes the pay for Sundays quite attractive and better than the late shift allowance.

We've already had the discussion and it was you who said this level of pay on Sunday wasn't sustainable so how long is it going to remain "attractive"?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Sunday pay is still under negotiation.

Have Royal Mail indicated that they will be comfortable paying this long term?

There is zero chance they will pay us around £16 an hour long term on Sunday’s. This feels like a trap, be careful out there choosing duties with Sunday’s included.

We had afew working Sundays at the start of the new year, they said it was about £13.50 an hour. Where has this £16 an hour magically appeared from?

In the beginning Sunday working was totally voluntary in supermarkets.... as you were

Captain those supermarket unions did not have the membership or safeguards the CWU have !

line with the commitments within the agreement it is agreed the introduction of these additional Sunday deliveries and attendances will be on a voluntary basis. All future resourcing models will be subject to further National discussion and agreement as part of the Future Joint National Pipeline review process and also evaluated in line with commercial forecasts and projections.


The difference in supermarkets is that if your buying bread it’s should be the same price whether that is bought on a Saturday or a Sunday ! There is a difference if you want to send a parcel on a Sunday when the whole network is closed compared to a Friday when it is opened.

Volumes and the increase in revenue on a Sunday will be what decides whether the extra costs for delivering on Sundays is sustainable in the longer term. If it is not then it will be negotiated not like supermarkets rolled in. Who remembers Royal Mail’s 9-5 strategy , never came in ! Why the CWU!

MTSF also applies to pensionable allowances and the Pathway to change agreement extend the lifespan of MTSF so as you say let’s see but the evidence in the short to medium term is compelling for anyone working Sundays ?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Amazon potentially use it, even if it's just for rural areas, if it's cheaper than using their own vans and staff

Are the negotiations on Sunday pay still ongoing Martin and if so shouldn't we wait until an agreement is reached and we've seen that final draft before we encourage members to sign up to revisions that include Sunday working rather than basing decisions on hearsay and guesswork?
