LTB 463/17 – POST OFFICE: CONSULTATIVE BALLOT RESULT – IMPOSITION OF 2% PAY INCREASE

POST OFFICE: CONSULTATIVE BALLOT RESULT – IMPOSITION OF 2% PAY INCREASE



Further to LTB 418/17 dated 21st July. As previously advised, we have conducted a consultative ballot of our members to seek their views in regard to the Executive Action by the Post Office to impose a 2% pay offer with August salaries (backdated to 1st April 2017). RPI inflation stood at 3.6% for July; therefore this imposition amounts to a significant pay cut in real terms. This position is readily understood by our members who have delivered the following result in the ballot which closed today:



VOTES REJECTING THE IMPOSITION 1,173 90%
VOTES ACCEPTING THE IMPOSITION 128 10%
TURNOUT 48%
*spoilt ballot papers: 1



Clearly our members have overwhelmingly rejected the Post Office’s imposition of a 2% pay increase. As a consequence of the members’ decision, I have today written to Paula Vennells, Group Chief Executive, formally proposing a reopening of pay negotiations (which could include the potential for a multi-year agreement). This approach may help us to be able to agree a way forward. My letter is attached for your information.



We have also written directly to members at their home addresses (also attached) informing them of the ballot result and providing them with a copy of my letter to Paula Vennells. Hopefully the Post Office will listen to the strong voice of our members and get back around the bargaining table.
