No. 092
Ref: 101
Date: 27 January 2011
TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleague,
POL: PAY AGREEMENT 2010 – ADMIN GRADES
I am pleased to inform Branches that the Postal Executive has endorsed a one-year pay agreement, effective from 1st April 2010, for Administrative Grades working in Post Office Ltd. POL, for many months last year resisted negotiating a pay increase, and previously communicated its position of a 0% pay rise, effectively meaning a pay freeze.
Eventually, via negotiation, an agreement has now been concluded for Admin Grades. The formal pay offer letter is attached to this LTB, along with a Joint Statement.
Key Features of the Agreement:
The pay agreement is a one-year agreement and the next pay review date will be April 2011
Postal Assistants (PAs) will receive £10 per week consolidated pay increase, backdated to 1st April 2010. This increase takes PAs from £315 to £325 per week
Postal Officers (POs) including Field Support Advisors (FSAs) and Customer Service Advisors (CSAs) will receive a consolidated pay increase of 2.25% backdated to 1st April 2010
Introduction of Bonus Scheme – from 1st April 2010 for all Admin Grades*, allowing them to potentially earn £850 per annum (pro-rata for part-time members). For PAs this equates to 5.17% of current pay and for POs to 4.28% of current pay
*The new bonus arrangement does not include CSAs in Farnworth who already have a legacy bonus scheme which transferred with them from HR services
£850 bonus for 2010/11 will be paid in full to all eligible POs/PAs, following a YES vote in the ballot, as follows:
£637.50 (pro-rata for part-time members) paid with February salaries
£212.50 (pro-rata for part-time members) paid with April salaries
FSAs will also receive the £850 bonus (pro-rata for part-time members) in full; however, they have previously been in receipt of the Sales Incentive Scheme quarterly overlay payments which will cease on the introduction of the new arrangements.
FSAs have consequently already received £392 in bonus payments, including Q3’s payment in January salaries. Therefore, FSAs will receive a top-up payment of £245.50 with February salaries, following endorsement of the ballot.
CollagueShare Dividend - £600 – All Admin grades will receive a ColleagueShare dividend payment of £600 (pro-rata for part-timers) with April salaries
For the 2010/11 financial year, the combined benefit of the pay rise - £10 per week (PAs) and 2.25% (POs) coupled with the £850 bonus payments will enhance the value of earnings for PA and PO grades by 7.42% and 6.52% respectively.
Whilst the pay agreement has taken a long time to conclude, I am convinced that the agreement including the new bonus arrangements will be well received by our members.
Ballot Details
An individual members ballot will now take place for ratification of this agreement. The ballot timetable is as follows:
Ballot papers dispatched by first class mail Tuesday 1st February
Ballot papers to be returned (first class mail) by: Friday 11th February
Crown Office Members
Now that we have resolved pay for both Admin and Supply Chain members working in POL, it is disappointing that POL continues to refuse to negotiate a 2010 pay increase for our members working in Crown Offices, who still face a pay freeze. Due to this impasse, it is a distinct possibility that an industrial action ballot will take place in the near future. POL’s disgraceful attitude in this regard leaves us with no option and therefore conflict is inevitable. Further developments will be reported.
Please ensure that this LTB in distributed to all members working in POL Admin.
Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be directed to Claire Bowers, cbowers@cwu.org or 020 8971 7361.
Yours sincerely
Andy Furey

Re: POL: PAY AGREEMENT 2010 : ADMIN GRADES
Nice to see the admin grades getting a pay rise and getting a colleague dividend
. now the union can concentrate getting the counter staff a decent payrise remember us, the people on the frontline who do all the
work under extreme stress over the sales culture that you agreed
dealing with very weak management
every day, warm ups, on line coaching, warm downs who cares just serve the queue, the customers waiting
without them no one would get a wage, so come on mr andy furey get the best deal for us we definitely
deserve it.

Re: POL: PAY AGREEMENT 2010 : ADMIN GRADES
Well done to the CWU for securing a pay deal for the Admin staff and everyone else in RMG.
Only problem is, what about the front line staff who've got NOTHING.
Here's the maths for a PO in Admin (The grade that I still am as far as I'm concerned, not a Crown Customer Service sh1te):
With February salary £409.98 back pay, £637.50 bonus payment. With April salary £212.50 bonus payment, £600.00 colleague share dividend (erm, probably replacing the issue of shares you should have got in 2009) Giving a total payout of £1,859.98 between now and April.
From 1st March they will be on £20,325 with the prospect of another rise from April 2011.
On the counters we're still on £19,156 with NO payrise, NO bonus payment for the majority, NO colleague share dividend
and NO hope.
A MESSAGE FOR RICHARD BARKER, PAULA VENNELLS, DEBBIE MOORE ET ALIA - DO YOU THINK I'M STUPID?

Hang on a minute – these people are our CWU colleagues. In my view this settlement could be good news for us as an additional argument for pressing our cause. Time to keep calm, and be ready to act I think.onlyanother30years wrote:Fookin Admin picking up payrise and bonuses galore for doing jack shite

Re: POL: PAY AGREEMENT 2010 : ADMIN GRADES
May I suggest an alternative form of ‘industrial action’? During ‘Warm Activities’, Sales Coaching, meetings etc. ask as many questions as you can – Why is the target that? How many have we done this year/month/period/week/yesterday? How do we compare with others in our Area/Region/Nationally? What is the Income Factor for this product? How is it set? And many more…kathleen1 wrote: warm ups, on line coaching, warm downs
I know I’m pathetic, but it amuses me to see how long I can spin it out.
The trouble is, none of my colleagues speak to me anymore…
